14 Cold Starters from @AliOcakbasi, in fulfilment of our modus operandi of providing you the “comprehensive Halal reviews”. ⠀ Starting with the centre dish of 𝐂𝐢𝐠𝐤𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞, we move on to the plate of 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐮𝐬 located at 3 o’clock and make our way clockwise around, which corresponds above. ⠀ 𝐂𝐢𝐠𝐤𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞 – Raw meatballs of hand pounded minced meat with bulghur, onion and chilli red pepper £8.20 ⠀ 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐮𝐬 – Homemade humus of chickpeas, tahini, cumin, milk & lemon juice, £6.40 ⠀ 𝐊𝐮𝐫𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐤 – 🅁🄴🄲🄾🄼🄼🄴🄽🄳🄴🄳 Turkish yoghurt with cubes of cucumber £6.40 ⠀ The quality of the yoghurt was superb. As creamy and smooth as you’d like, with a hint of tang, made all the better with the small chunks of crunchy cucumber therein. ⠀ 𝐊𝐨𝐳𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐦𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐢 𝐁𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫 – Roasted red pepper with olive oil & vinegar £6.40 ⠀ 𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐬 – Mix of roasted eggplants with yoghurt & garlic £6.40 ⠀ 𝐄𝐟𝐞 – White cheese, parsley, fish onion, walnut £6.40 ⠀ 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐚 – Traditional spicey paste prepared with crushed walnuts, twice-baked bread, tahini, olive oil, garlic & lemon juice £6.40 ⠀ 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐢 – Puree of roasted eggplants £6.40 ⠀ 𝐊𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐫 – Special bulghur salad mix with Anatolian spices & vegetables £6.40 ⠀ 𝐊𝐨̈𝐩𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐮 – 🅁🄴🄲🄾🄼🄼🄴🄽🄳🄴🄳 Fried eggplant, potatoes & green capsicum pepper with special tomato puree and yoghurt on top £6.40 ⠀ This was a really good dish comprising of freshly fried eggplant, which had a touch of bite to it, and potatoes, all of which were topped by a zingy pickled tomato puree, with onions running through it, and a dollop of that fantastic Turkish yoghurt. 𝐓𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐦 𝐏𝐞𝐲𝐧𝐢𝐫𝐢 – Goat Cheese with butter £6.40 ⠀ 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐮 – Mix plate of spicy homemade pickles £6.40 ⠀ 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐚𝐳 𝐏𝐞𝐲𝐧𝐢𝐫 – Traditional Anotilan white cheese £6.40 ⠀ 𝐀𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢 𝐘𝐨𝐠𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐭 – Homemade yoghurt with chilli red pepper slices on the top. @AliOcakbasi_London (Turkish) – Leicester Square, London HALAL STATUS: Fully Halal food menu • Alcohol served International brand #AliOcakbasi landed in the UK earlier this year before launching their first branch in Central London in March. With their flagship restaurant overlooking the Galata Bridge in the ancient harbour of Istanbul’s Golden Horn and the other in Amsterdam, they have now introduced Anatolian cuisine in Leicester Square. There's no denying the ambition of Ali Ocakbasi. These guys have a menu that's quite varied, and with dishes executed in a way which you won't find at other Turkish/ Anatolian restaurants. Most impressive was their starters which had versions of staples with an interesting twist that were really well executed. And a word on their pide too - one of the best we've ever had!
