Okay so this isn't the sort of thing I usually post on here, but I'm annoyed.
In order to be considered for the Spark Award, both author and illustrator must be members of SCBWI, and the illustrations are a part of the considerations for judging.
So why have the contributions of the illustrators effectively been erased? Never mind the actual perks of winning - illustrators Alison Mutton (Little Dune) and Rodrigo Cordeiro (Lena and the Dragon) aren't even so much as MENTIONED anywhere.
These are picture books. Surely in picture books the illustrations are equally as important given you can't have a picture book without the damn pictures.
So why the hell have Alison and Rodrigo not been given any credit whatsoever when their work is critical to the success of their respective books?
(This is not the fault of the authors, who are lovely people; nothing but love and congratulations for Lisa and Bethany, please.)
Ugh. Anyway.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
Also, be sure to check out Alison and Rodrigo’s websites, because they’re awesome.
