Spoilery one below
The ninjago fandom after an entire season gets leaked (it will happen again)
homie i need a 200 page dissertation on ur "Farewell The Sea" AU the idea FASCINATES ME
YAP ALERT TEEHEE
OKAY SO I AM VERY EXCITED TO TALK ABOUT THIS
The events of seasons 1-3 progress as normal; Zane overloads his heart and takes down the Overlord. Zane’s consciousness has been sent to the Digiverse where he constructs himself a new body out of titanium. Except this time, the Overlord has ingrained himself into Zane’s mind. The Overlord is reallyfucked up. He’s not even formless goop anymore, he is just barely hanging onto Zane’s soul. However, Zane doesn’t know this.
Skip to Chen’s Island. Everything progresses as normal as the Overlord lies in wait and slowly becomes stronger. Pixal is not uploaded into Zane’s consciousness since the Overlord blocks that as a priority from his mind. Nya is the one who finds Pixal and repairs her. Zane feels as though something is wrong with him, but he chalks it up to unfamiliarity with his new body.
During the fight with the Anacondrai Cultists when Kai picks up the Staff of Elements, the Overlord recognizes a weakness in Kai’s psyche and exploits it. Kai is about to shake himself off from the temptation of power before the Overlord silently influences Zane to try and wrestle the staff away from him. The Overlord knows how Kai will react, because he saw into his mind during his brief control of him during the finale of season 2 (oh yeah callback to the evil goop™️). Since Kai is stubborn, he holds onto the staff and he becomes further reaffirmed that all anyone wants to do is take what power he has. Chen is like “oh yeah embrace the power boy” and Kai just straight up vaporizes him.
So now Kai just committed murder and there’s kind of no going back from that.
The team is horrified by this and the Cultists decide to follow Kai since well… Only One can Remain. Clouse also gets sent to the Cursed Realm because Garmadon so no more spell. It’s clear that Kai’s leadership is going to be more outwardly violent as opposed to Chen’s calculated brutality. The ninja and ex-elemental masters find a way off the island, effectively stranding Kai and the cultists there until further notice. There is no battle at the Corridor of Elders and Kai still has the Staff of Elements.
Now you may be asking, how the freak do Nya and Wojira come into the equation and o say hold on. We’re getting there.
The team is extremely fragile after Kai’s corruption. Lloyd and Nya take it especially hard. Kai was an extremely caring and loyal person. Could power really change all of that in an instant? Meanwhile, the Overlord slowly starts creeping more into Zane’s mind. Nightmares, doing things and going places he doesn’t recall the purpose of, memories that aren’t his, and feeling like a foreigner in his own body. The ninja notice he seems to stare more into their souls than he used to. Zane starts talking to Lloyd more than he used to. Well, in a more direct way than he used to. With the new way that his eyes seemed to burn with a deeply buried hatred towards Lloyd.
By the time Wu begins to investigate Zane’s strange behavior, it’s too late. The Overlord has now completely taken over Zane’s body as a vessel; leaving Zane in a mental prison of the Overlord’s making. A never-ending maze of painful memories, uncertain futures, and impossible realities. The Overlord easily tears through the monastery and the entire team to get to Lloyd.
Keep in mind Lloyd has the combo of depressed and powerless so he’s not great at defending himself. The Overlord successfully kidnaps Lloyd and nobody knows where Lloyd or Zane/Overlord is.
Garmadon and Wu blame themselves for not acting sooner. Garmadon goes off on his own in an effort to find his son. Wu recognizes the threat of the Overlord and realizes that Ninjago is screwed without any elemental masters. So he goes to Nya and pulls the “hey you had elemental powers the whole time but I’m only telling you now because it’s advantageous for me”.
As Nya is training, the Overlord begins to emerge in Ninjago City. Since many of the stone warriors were housed near there, they react to their master’s call. Lloyd is put in a cage (since that’s where he always is lmao). Lloyd doesn’t have his normal energy powers or gold power so he isn’t sure what the Overlord wants with him. The Overlord’s physical form is still quite weak, only barely able to grow and fester in Zane’s body. Lloyd, even without his elemental power, still has Dragon and Oni heritage that will be able to completely support the Overlord. However, the Overlord has to wait for Lloyd to age enough for these traits to show. The Overlord’s darkness spreads from the center of Ninjago City, slowly but surely.
The events of Skybound still happen. However, Nadakhan is significantly less powerful without Zane, Lloyd, and Kai’s souls. Jay is still stupid and gets beat up on Misfortune’s Keep. Djinjago is built in the sky. Jay gets an opportunity to stab Nadakhan with the tiger widow venom before he and Nya are wed. It turns out getting the venom into a major bloodstream is much more lethal than just getting it on his skin. However, the events of the season are not reversed. Jay still has to live with his asshole behavior rather than getting the chance to go back and correct it. Djinjago falls into the sea and just kind of becomes a partially submerged archipelago.
Meanwhile in Merlopia, Kalmaar recognizes that the Overlord, while causing issues for the dry-landers, will eventually start venturing into the seas. HIS seas. Kalmaar begins his resurrection of Wojira much sooner in canon. Think like season 7 on the timeline (the Overlord takes out Krux and controls the Vermillion warriors as part of his army). So Kalmaar murders Trimaar and resurrects Wojira, controlling her to attack Ninjago City - the heart of The Overlord’s corruption.
Wojira doesn’t really feel like taking on another godlike entity when it isn’t on her own terms so she eats Kalmaar and just kind of dips into the ocean.
Throughout all of this, Nya’s powers have been dangerously unstable. Since none of her other allies have powers of this magnitude, she feels even worse about herself. Eventually the mental and physical anguish cause her so much distress that she just up and runs away.
She runs to the edge of the sea and looks out at it, sitting there motionless for hours until the sun falls beneath the horizon. It starts to pelt rain but Nya is so stuck in her head she stays there. Then Wojira pulls up.
Nya, although not being able to fully understand Wojira, is able to comprehend parts of her thoughts because they control the same element. Both of their controls over water has been unstable because they each keep trying to use water when there is only supposed to be one wielder of each element (excluding Amber ig). Wojira alone is nowhere near strong enough to defeat the Overlord, but strong enough to fend him off on occasion.
Y’see, I consider the Overlord to be a separate clone entity of the First Spinjitzu Master. Kind of like he separated his Oni side and it festered into the Overlord. As such, the FSM never had access to wind and water since those were Wojira’s elements. So, the Overlord has no power over wind or water either.
Wojira takes Nya down to Merlopia and Nya takes the throne. Benthomaar, who was in charge after Kalmaar’s death, takes the role of advisor since he wasn’t too big on all that responsibility.
Nya gets a staff similar to that of Kalmaar’s that channels Wojira’s elemental energy but does not control her painfully. Much like the staff of elements did to her brother, it is slowly corrupting her as well. Mostly because Wojira is also a power hungry deity and after taking down the Overlord, she would like Ninjago for herself.
As the Overlord spreads, more people are pushed off the mainland and are forced to refuge in a few places. One of them being Merlopia and another being the Anacondrai Cultists’ island. The third is Shintaro, where Cole has been this whole time. Jay smuggles supplies on the newly repaired-ish, Misfortune’s Keep (now renamed to something else idk).
I’m sure I’ll have more details later but this is the extremely long breakdown good lord. Anyways uhhhhh 🍪 here’s a cookie for reading this whole thing hopefully.
I just think it would be funny if for no reason at all, Chima was randomly brought back up.
Like I want to find out that Ronin now lives with the scammer ravens.
Laval seeing Lloyd and being like “oh hey you’re the Guy Who Fell From The Sky™️ like 10 years ago”
Lagravis and Ras are toxic exes
Wyldfyre stealing a shit ton of Chi simply because its valuable
