list of songs you'll like liam to cover? also, your favorite liam covers
Songs I’d like Liam to cover:
Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors”, Maroon 5′s “Sugar”, Nick Jonas’ “Jealous” - Any or all! For the exact same super transparent reason! HONESTLY, these are all super obvious choices that I have no doubt Liam would sound fucking great on. Really the fact that I don’t currently have full CD quality covers of them all in my hands right now is a crime.
Then I’d also like him to cover any number of female R&B songs from like the late 90′s - early 00′s - Monica’s “Angel of Mine” or Brandy’s “Have You Ever” or Tamia’s “So Into You” or Ashanti’s “Foolish” - for entirely selfish reasons. I mean, not ENTIRELY. They’re all great songs with more interesting melodies than your average pop song. But MOSTLY they’re jams that I love a lot and have loads of nostalgia for.
I tend not to joke when I say I want Liam to cover ALL THE SONGS. I truly do. I can’t think of something where my initial thought is “… y’know, actually I don’t…” So I’m gonna stop there. But just know that literally ALL THE SONGS. He should cover all of them.
It’s haaard to pin down favorite Liam covers. The like half-assed ones they used to do during shows were sometimes GREAT but always too short. The like six seconds of Climax is obviously a classic, as his The Way You Make Me Feel should also be. AND CRY ME A RIVER (… Timberlake’s, clearly). And I’m sure there are some I’m forgetting.
In terms of the pre-1D ( / super early 1D) covers: His cover of Chris Brown’s “Crawl” is great for a lot of reasons. His voice is sooo good and it’s like basically just his voice over his own (competent) guitar playing. It’s SUPER underrated and people should talk about it more.
I’ve espoused elsewhere my love of Liam’s covers of Lost and Last Request, which both bring out the gravitas in pre-1D Liam’s voice like no other. So instead I’ll use this space to heap praise onto his cover of Your Song from 2009. His 15-year-old voice is SO rich and lovely. It’s just crazy how emotive he is and how deftly he handles the song. I love it SO MUCH.
… I’ll stop now. Because my brain has run out of ways to put words together to make sentences.
