Building on stilts
Last week Bjarke Ingels Group and UIA Management announced a 125,000 square meter mixed-use complex in Allapattah, Miami called the Miami Produce Center.
The proposed project includes office, residential, and hotel uses on stilts over three existing warehouse buildings. The existing buildings will be transformed into restaurants, shops, cafes, and a school. And supposedly, at least according to the renderings, the parking garage will be designed so that it can be transformed into a club at a night. This is Miami after all.
Here are a few diagrams from BIG showing the build up:
Perhaps best known for its warehouses and Dominican population, investors have been speculating for years that Allapattah would eventually become the next Wynwood. Here’s some evidence that it already has the requisite bars and artsy things.
Does this project signify a tipping point for the area? Feels like it. But those of you who know Miami better than I do would be in a better position to comment.

Allapattah Times: Teaching Learn-to-Swim Lessons Across the Allapattah Neighborhood with Atlantis Swim School
In the heart of Miami’s vibrant Allapattah neighborhood, a quiet but powerful movement is making waves—one swim stroke at a time. Atlantis Swim School, known for its commitment to water safety and community education, has been delivering learn-to-swim lessons to children and families across Allapattah, with a focus on inclusion, accessibility, and lifelong water confidence.
For years, Atlantis Swim School has worked closely with local schools, community centers, and organizations like Easter Seals South Florida to bring swim instruction to an area often overlooked when it comes to aquatic programming. Allapattah, a culturally rich but historically underserved neighborhood, faces challenges such as limited access to pools, financial barriers, and a high population of at-risk youth.
Recognizing these needs, Atlantis Swim School designed a program specifically for the Allapattah community—offering low-cost or grant-supported lessons, bilingual instructors, and specialized classes for children with autism and other special needs. Classes are held year-round and taught by American Red Cross-certified Water Safety Instructors with experience in adaptive teaching strategies.
But it’s more than just swim lessons. The mission is rooted in saving lives.
According to the CDC, drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death for children under 14, with children in underserved communities at disproportionately higher risk. In Allapattah, this reality hits close to home. Atlantis Swim School’s presence here is not just about recreation—it’s about prevention, empowerment, and creating generational change.
From toddlers taking their first splash to teens overcoming fear of water, each class is a step toward building a safer, more connected neighborhood. And the impact ripples far beyond the pool.
“We’re not just teaching swim strokes,” says one Atlantis instructor. “We’re teaching trust, confidence, and a life skill that could one day save them or someone else.”
As Atlantis Swim School continues to grow its presence in Allapattah, it remains dedicated to its core purpose: ensuring that every child—regardless of background, ability, or income—has the chance to learn how to swim safely.
Stay afloat, stay empowered, and stay tuned. Allapattah is just getting started.
