I think that Alfred would actually have a very diverse team! After all, you can't kick Arthur's ass be the very best if you resign to only using one type!
That being said, I can definitely see him having a Nidoqueen as his "starter" pokemon! Because I imagine him finding her as a small Nidoran as a child and raising her up to be super strong and tough.
