Round Again is a moody and melancholic country rock ballad performed by Ryan Nelson and Allie Farris. The two talented singers set out to create a truly inspirational sonic texture with their vocal harmonies and heartfelt performances, truly matched the great music written by Adam Gardner and Jim Vierra (the latter also wrote the lyrics to the song).
"Round Again" is a great example of new school Nashville sound: everything feels extremely focused within the mix, yet there is still a visceral, natural and organic "glue" that holds the entire performance together. Some contemporary country artists and producers sadly seem to rely way too much on studio trickery: there is nothing wrong with that, but it just doesn't feel the same when I can hear the process as a listener: people want to feel the music with no external distraction! Round Again is a tasteful production that definitely allow listeners to get lost in the sound and focus on the personal lyrics and on the beautifully arranged instrumental sections. The drums are present and tight, perfectly locking in with the bass.
The slightly overdriven electric guitars blend in with the bright acoustics in order to offer a chimey and present sound that helps the song spring out. To top it all, the spars piano chords here and there truly add to the sense of room and melody, alongside with the beautifully performed lap steel guitar leads .
With such premises, it is not surprising that "Round Again" was featured as "song of the Month" on Fifty Something Records - a company that puts passion first and works with some of the most talented artists in Nashville.
