Matilde Hidalgo is a seriously cool kid. This is probs one of my favourites from #RebelVoices! 🖤💚🌴🌿💚🖤Branded a troublemaker, Matilde sparked her first scandal when she persuaded the director of her high school to offer her a place, a privilege until then enjoyed only by boys. Horrified mothers banned their daughters from befriending her and Matilde braved a daily gauntlet of insults on her way to school. Even her local priest tried to humiliate her into submission by making her listen to services two paces outside the church door. These cruel attacks wounded Matilde, but also drove her on. She became the first female doctor in Ecuador, and aspired to open doors for other women too. Her chance came when she discovered that although no woman had ever voted, it was not actually illegal for them to do so.
