Allo Darlin’ - photos that probably should have but didn’t make it into the book
I spent much of October and November 2016 going through my collection of Allo Darlin’ photos trying to put together a book to coincide their final shows. Hours and hours were spent sifting through old hard drives and photo CDs trying to select photos that weren’t too personal, that work together and all in all would give a nice overview of the years between 2009 and 2012, when the band was such a big part of of my life. I am pretty damn happy with the final result, but there are always things you realize when it’s too late to change anything. And I could really have done with a bit more time to just have done some proper editing of the chosen images. But now it’s over and the books are available, so I should really stop thinking about it.
It was an interesting exercise, trying to pick photos that might appeal to other people, not just photos I’m personally happy with. I still keep finding photos I wish I would’ve included. Some were left out because of space, some because they weren’t the most flattering of pictures and some were left out by mistake. As simple as that. I just forgot to put them in or found them when it was too late. There was just too much to choose from.
I thought I’d use this platform to post some of my favorite photos from those years, pictures that for one reason or another never made it into the book.
The image that became the band’s first album cover. Shot with a disposable waterproof 35mm camera in Byron Bay, Australia, at some point in early 2007. I’m underwater, taking a photo of Elizabeth who is standing up looking down on me.
I'm wondering if I've already heard all the songs that'll mean something. I'm wondering if I've already met all the people that'll mean something.

Allo Darlin' - 'Bright Eyes' (2015)
OMG, I can't believe I only started listening to the new Allo Darlin' this past month (busy, yada, yada). This album would have surely made my best of 2015 list if I had given it a shot earlier.
Bloody love this tune, boy/girl unison vocals make my knees buckle. Bloody. Excellent.
So who's listened to Allo Darlin's new album what? Thoughts?
Tallulah - Allo Darlin'
Allo Darlin'. Here's a lovely little ditty for you, by a darling little combo from London, who tiptoe across the tightrope between charming and twee, without ever losing their grip and plunging with a scream into the chasm.
They craft terrific pop that lilts and flits and riffs around your head, so that you wake up in the morning with the song replaying itself like a pleasant dream, or a pleasant sequence from a movie by Wes Anderson, starring Zooey Deschanel.
I have chosen this daydreamy song for you, because it is a little atypical of their sparky, energetic music, and yet it is one of my favourites from from their two albums, Allo Darlin', and Europe. And also because it is sung to the sound of a ukulele playing four chords, over and over again.
Listen, rinse, repeat, okay? Thank you, Darlin'.
