I had my first harvest of 2018 from the allotment today. Picked all my Broadbeans which had been planted back in November last year. I also had a few peas which didn't quite make it off the plot. I started those in November as well and over wintered them in the polytunnel. I picked all the strawberries which were Ruby red in colour which I will gladly eat later. I also noticed one on my over wintering onions was going to seed, so I also harvested that one. It was grown from a set planted in November. I just hope all the others grow well and bulb up a bit more before harvesting early July. The garlic scapes have started, so to ensure they put all their energy into the bulb rather than flowering and making seeds I snapped them off and will be making something with those as well. Not too bad for my first harvest. I'm really pleased.
