What are your must-have hair products?
You have come to the right place! I have very curly hair and have spent years finding the best products for my it.
Shampoo: I don’t use shampoo much because my hair doesn’t get oily or stinky; it just gets dry. I usually shampoo once every couple of weeks just to get rid of buildup, and when I do, I just make sure to use a sulfate-free shampoo. One brand I like for this is Organix. Their tea-tree mint shampoo smells amazing!
Conditioner: My must-have for this is Tresemeé Naturals silicone-free conditioner. I try to go silicone free in all my hair products. It makes such a big difference in the health of the hair!
Oil: Some kind of oil is essential for my hair because it is always so dry. My current favorite is castor oil. It can be hard to find. Look in the laxative section of drugstores. I found mine at Walgreens. It kind of smells like very light olive oil. Adding rosemary and lavender essential oils can make it smell great, and they are also great for your hair! I also like to add a bit of jojoba oil to this mixture. I know that there are a lot of hair oils out there, but it is very difficult to find ones without silicones. I was using Organix Moroccan Argan Oil for a while, but then I realized it had silicones in it. Mixing up your own hair oil is so much better because you know what goes in it, and you get a much higher proportion of ingredients because there are no fillers. I like to use coconut oil for deep conditioning. It smells amazing! I don’t normally use it to style because it is solid at room temperature, and I can’t get a comb through my hair when i have coconut oil in it.
Gel: I use the Garnier Pure Clean Styling Gel. It’s silicone-free, which is a major plus. I don’t use gel when I wear my hair down because it makes my curls look weird; however, i always use it when I wear my hair up to keep things contained, like in a braid.
Hairspray: I don’t use hairspray on a daily basis, but my favorite is Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold. It’s powerful, but it doesn’t make my hair feel crunchy.
Overall, I don’t really believe in using high end hair products; a lot of them are packed with silicones. The best hair products are the ones you can make in your own kitchen.
"Brokeback" Mary
a short story about when I broke my back for A.P. Lang
One, two, three, four. The horse's gallop is racing, just like my heart. I hear someone screaming, and I realize it's me. I then sense the excruciating pain. I am writhing on the ground, suddenly unaware of where I am, what happened, and what will happen. The pain takes over, and I'm unable to think clearly. I'm dying. I know it. This pain is too great for any human to bear. I hear the four beats again, almost trampling me. I hear voices, but I can't understand them. All my brain can process is pain. Pain. Pain. I pray to God. I ask, beg him to take me. In this moment, I don't want to live. I search for something around me I can use to put myself out of my misery. In this moment death is a prize, but I'm not a winner. I think I must be paralyzed. A few basic thoughts stir in my mind. What will my life be like now? Will I be limited in what I can do with my life? Will I be a burden to my parents? My body continues to jerk uncontrollably on the ground. I see the red and white lights. I'm being lifted off the ground. I'm being lifted into an ambulance. Oh, how I wish it was a hearse. The next few hours are a morphine-induced blur.
