You Always Hurt The Ones You Love || Blue Valentine AU || Jacob & Ada
There was something inevitably comforting about being inside an airport to Jacob, and he was never too sure why that was. He enjoyed the concept of getting swept away by a sea of people that comes from all over the globe. No one knew each other’s names; some didn’t speak the same languages. It was a perfect place full of perfect strangers, and though it could seem creepy to some, one of his favorite past times was to people watch. Looking at all the various faces he spotted and stood out to him made him question what their story was, who they were other than the person waiting patiently for their flight. Strangers were his inspiration for his writing, because he loved to make assumptions of what preoccupied their minds as they sat in the uncomfortable airport chairs. Jacob often didn’t sleep, battling insomnia for as long as he remembered, and he almost always found himself staggering in the airport. It was strange he did this, since he went in with no intentions of leaving the city, but he enjoyed frequenting their 24/7 diner inside. It was two in the morning, and the only place that sounded better than his bed was the diner. Taking a seat on the barstool in the front, he sent the familiar waitress a smile who was already beginning to pour him coffee. “Good morning, Gloria. Looking lovelier than ever,” he told her with a smile, folding his hands underneath his chin. The waitress let out a small laugh, pushing the cup to him. “As do you, Jacob. I’m guessing you’d like the usual.” Pointing his index fingers at her without moving his hands he smiled a bit more, though his smiles were always faint. “You know it.” As she turned to go to the back, Jacob sat up straighter in his seat, realizing he was slouching. Running a hand over his face and tired eyes, he let out an audible sigh, then dropped his hand back to the counter. Out of his peripheral vision, he spotted a book with stacks of paper next to him. Glancing up, he saw a blonde staring intently at the text in front of her, occasionally highlighting words of importance.
Maybe it was the sleep deprivation getting to him or maybe it was simple fact, but he suddenly felt like he was in the presence of perfection. It was a feeling he couldn’t quite shake.
Giving his lips a quick lick, he leaned to his left to look at her books, seeing large words even he didn’t understand. “I’m guessing either lawyer or doctor.”

Sunlight poured in through the dust infested blinds, soaking up the room in sudden color. He felt the warmth on his skin, an inviting way to be greeted by the morning. The room was nearly silent, minus the breathing of him and his wife, along with the slight wobbling of the ceiling fan. His eyes fluttered open slowly, blinking to keep the sun’s rays away from directly hitting his eyes. He focused his slight blurry vision on the cracks of the ceiling, noticing the spots he had missed when painting years ago. Movement caught his attention as he felt her turn underneath the sheets, sinking farther into the bed. He glanced at her, watching the light greet the skin of her shoulder blade. His gaze stayed there for a moment, completely lost in thought until the room was full of pitter patter of small footsteps. Without warning, his daughter, Carson, threw herself on the bed, crashing into Jacob’s chest. She threw into fits of giggles as Jacob let out a huff, then he began to tickle her. “Oh, yeah? You think it’s cool jumping on me? Huh? Huh?” He tickled her more, making her yell out for him to stop through laughter. Realizing they had woke up Ada, Jacob stopped, giving Carson a playful scared look. “Oh no, Cars. You woke up the bear.”
