👀 someone else who wasn't fond of Horizon: Zero Dawn, I see. I 100% agree Alloy and everyone else talked too much and the gameplay needed more fine-tuning. (I think the climbing was handled particularly poorly, since the game was so picky about where you climbed that 90% of the time I just jumped to places the hard way.)
Glad Elden Ring is treating you good!
It feels like you can't find anyone who didn't like it.
I was super excited to play it because I love archery in games (Ghost of Tsushima being the one that's done it best that I've experienced so far) and was sorely disappointed. The archery didn't feel nice at all and the camera felt like it was too far away from Aloy as well (but maybe you could adjust that in settings, I don't know.) And the CLIMBING! YOU ARE SO RIGHT. Never has climbing in a game annoyed me so badly. I went from Ghost of Tsushima's pretty stellar climbing to having to jump and take damage just to get down mid climb...
When I first started playing it I was like, oh, Aloy is a lonely little girl of course she talks that much, she'll quiet down later. No, she does not. I'm fine with video game characters talking (like Dragon Age companions, Geralt's "winds howling" etc) but this was too much. And I had no inclination to really explore, which is how I usually play.
Elden Ring is not being nice but in a good way aha. Still only beaten Margit in the 37 hour I've been playing...but that's because I've been exploring and dungeon hopping. I think I could comfortably put 100+ hours in this game.
Sorry for the rant and thanks for the ask!
