They train doctors slowly. They watch us practice on frogs and pigs and dead people and then live people. They drill us relentlessly. They raise us like children and eventually they take a cold hard boot and kick us out of the nest. We all want to grow up. We're desperate to get there. Grab all the opportunities we can to live. We're so busy trying to get out of that nest, we don't think about the fact that it's going to be cold out there. Really freaking cold. Because growing up sometimes means leaving people behind. And by the time we stand on our own two feet, we're standing there alone.
Meredith Grey, Almost Grown
The proposals in Almost Grown in a nutshell:
Teddy: dont give the money to neuro. Also i guess stem cell?
Hunt: its baileys fault percy is dead so give me money
Sloan: im so horny i could do anything
Robbins: heres a pretty solid presentation that got a little bit rambly and aggressive at the end
Torres: spent all day psyching everyone out and then gave a weird presentation and also talked way too much about her sexuality
Shephard: im gonna cure alzheimers for my girlfriend
Bailey: crazy plan, lets fix the stuff thats broken and get a new nurse
The sixth track of the David Bowie and Friends gig at the Paris Cinema Studios for the John Peel BBC radio show was a cover of Chuck Berry’s Almost Grown. This rock n roll standard was a hit for Berry back in 1959, getting to number three on the Billboard R&B chart. Vocals are delivered by one of the many guest vocalists for the show. As Peel says: ‘added to the group on this one is Geoffrey Alexander, who lives at the end of the road that David lives on, and who likes to sing. So David asked him to come along and sing. Which is pretty good. I like that. Community kind of thing’. Geoffrey Alexander was in fact an old school friend of Bowie’s called Geoff MacCormack, who later changed his name to Warren Peace (a play on War and Peace). Peace would join Bowie’s entourage in 1973, delivering backing vocals from Aladdin Sane all the way to Station to Station in ’76. He co-wrote Rock 'n' Roll With Me on Diamond Dogs (1974), and in 2007, reverting back to his real name Geoff MacCormack, published From Station to Station: Travels With Bowie 1973-76. It’s a pretty awesome cover of the tune, rocking up the piano driven original. Peel is ecstatic ‘oh that’s very good, hoo-hoo!’ Bowie would drop this number from his set, moving to another Berry tune to replace it: Round and Round (originally Around and Around aka Around & Around - the B-side to the 1958 hit single Johnny B. Goode). A version of that was recorded – but not used – for the Ziggy Stardust (1972) album. This cover of Almost Grown at this Bowie gig with MacCormack/Alexander/Peace is thus the only outing for the song.
Written by Chuck Berry. Recorded 3 June 1971. Broadcast 20 June 1971. Available on Bowie at the Beeb (2002).

Season 7, Episode 5 – Almost Grown
We all want to grow up. We’re desperate to get there, to grab all the opportunities we can... to live. We’re so busy trying to get out of that nest we don’t think about the fact that it’s going to be cold out there... really freakin’ cold. Because growing up sometimes means leaving people behind, and by the time we’re standing on our own two feet...we’re standing there alone
