healing botanicals: aloe vera
LAST EDITED: 3RD JULY 2019
I started my research on healing again recently - and I want to share my knowledge with you! If you spot anything that´s wrong or want to add something, please do so! but be respectful tho.
Even though the Aloe is a great plant for healing, it also can be damaging and dangerous.
Especially because the leaves contain aloin, which is said to be not only carcinogenic, but ingesting an overdose can also deprive the body of calcium and water, which can cause cardiac arrhythmia as well as muscle weakness. Diabetics have to be careful ingesting aloe as well, since it can cause a drop of blood pressure. It also shouldn´t be ingested during pregnancy.
Here are some of its healing properties and uses:
The aloe plant is said to have anti inflammatory ingredients, so you can apply it on small cuts and burns to aid in the healing process.
The gel also can be used for various other treatments of your skin: you can apply it on dry and inflamed skin to soothe the irritated area as well as using it just as a moisturizer.
When you spent too much time in the sun and got a sunburn, aloe can also help you with your sunburn - apply the gel to the affected area and your skin will thank you afterwards.
The gel can also be ingested. It is said that the juice of the aloe vera can help you to strengthen your immune system. The ingredient that is said to be responsible for the impact on the immune system is the Polysaccharid Acemannan which is stored in the cellmembrane.
Just another warning here: as I said above, the leaves also contain aloin which can be dangerous so whenever you ingest aloe (or really anything else!) be sure about what you are doing.
Last but not least: always do your own research before applying and/or ingesting anything and double check so that you don´t risk any side effects.
