My Aloe...
It’s a hybrid called “Sunshine”. :)
Introduction to Aloe Hybrids: davesgarden.com
Featured is an aesthetically pleasing pink aloe hybrid. Harvested quite a few seeds from this plant. There is a possibility of self-fertilization seeing as I didn't actively focus on crossing this hybrid with any of my other flowering species. Will confirm once the seeds are sown.
'Orbea Variegata' propagated from seed (germinated Dec 2018, SeedsandAll)
It is shown here producing its first flower. What makes this plant so unusual is that the flower emits a strong rather putrid smell that attracts its main pollinator - flies. The genus is distributed widely throughout Africa and enters the Arabian Peninsula. Strangely, Orbea localities have not been observed in Madagascar nor in the South African province of Lesotho. This genus is florally very diverse and flowers are adapted to a wide range of different fly species.
F1- hybrid Gasteria seedlings. Those who have been following my blog will know that I post about these specific hybrids a lot. 8 months in the making and they're still so extremely small.
This was my first attempt at cross pollinating two different species from the same genus. These are so special to me because I am planning on creating my own series of hybrids. This will be the first generation of the 'Gasteria Marble Shores' series, and obviously the foundation has just been laid. The end product will most likely look nothing like these seedlings, but I'm excited to share my experiences.
'Aloe ellenbeckii' displaying successful pollination. Cross-pollinated with 'Aloe kedongensis'. Tried to alter my pollination method and was able to get some seed development going on both plants.
Aloe cross-pollination. Hybrid sessions late at night - the ultimate stress reliever.
Included in the mix is two TCT hybrids, one miniature madagascan species and a intergeneric Gasteraloe species.
