Cara literally translates from Irish as ‘friend.’ It’s just something we put in our sentences when we’re friendly. Irish people never call people by their names, we always use honourifics. Don’t be dismayed.

I can't be dismayed by something that's so familiar. Finnish people never use names when talking to people. I'm actually shocked when someone calls me by name in a conversation.
