Though I feel like a big dork showing this off, I'm going to do it anyhow.
I made a good omens charm and pin display board. It was a little hard to find something I could work with because I'm not really fond of the way cork-board looks. After going to four different places I was able to locate a large canvas pin-board at Michael's craft store of all places. It started out with a distressed white painted frame, but I wasn't into it so I broke out the gold leafing paint and went over it, then lightly distressing it once more so that you could see the wood-grain. It's hard to tell that it's gold foil paint in the picture due to the lighting, but it's sort of a darker antiqued copper-toned gold. I ended up using the better part of half of the jar but have no regrets about that.
I went and bought a black wrought-iron curtain rod and then found a nice large looking galaxy scarf to work with, and gold tieback. The only minor thing I don't care for about this scarf is that it has white seaming for some reason. You wouldn't believe the amount of fluffing and fussing it took to get it to lay like that. I have never in my life ever tried to have anything that draped “pretty” so there was a lot of wide-eyed contemplation, snarling, and cussing involved in the process. I think that bit took about an hour in total.
Underneath I used a black piece of fabric to help pad it out a bit, and two strands of tiny clear LED sting lights. They're just on solid in the pictures so I could get a proper picture of them, but they have a slow twinkling setting that is very nice, and if you get them going at different intervals it really does look like twinkling stars out in the background. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out overall.
