Doing it Together
It was really sweet to be pampered. Especially if you were Matthew, who rarely ever was treated as such. Instead, he was often overlooked. But once he presented as an omega and started going into heat, all that changed.
It was nice to be the center of attention for a week or so. Alphas hanging onto his every word. Bringing him snacks and little gifts, trying to impress him.
But that only lasted so long.
Centuries of such attention had become overwhelming. Alphas constantly in his space, taking his bag for him without even asking, bringing him lunch to the point half of it was going to waste, some even attempting to carry him into the meeting hall before Matthew slapped them back to their senses. But nothing would prepare him for what it was like to be going steady with an alpha.
Currently, he was trapped in the living room, lounging on the couch when he should have been preparing dinner. But instead, Jan was in a tizzy in the kitchen trying to prepare it instead. Matthew was trying to let it slide. After all, it was only for the week. But the longer he sat there, boredom buzzed in his brain, making him antsy.
A few more minutes went by before Matthew groaned, and strode into the kitchen.
“Get out,” Matthew demanded, more irritated than he meant.
Jan sighed “Matthew, how many times…”
“It’s my kitchen. Get out.”
Jan blinked in surprise. “Easy now…You know it’s my duty to take care–”
Matthew’s nostrils flared. “Do you think I can’t handle it?”
Normally, he was patient with this. After all, mixed with biology and preheat pheromones, alphas were faced with a desire to care for omegas in every way possible, especially if they were partners. This desire was not easy to override. But preheat also had side effects on omegas, and one of Matthew’s was a lack of patience. Especially, when someone made him feel incapable.
“No, but–”
“Then what’s the problem with me cooking? You know I love it.”
Back and forth they went, talking themselves in circles, Jan inching closer until Matthew bumped into the counter. Jan leaned over him. Not many nations were able to tower over Matthew like this. It made him shiver. They both fell silent, though the air was still thick and hot with tension.
Jan pressed Matthew into the counter more. Matthew gripped onto his lover’s shoulders, trying to keep his footing.
“Jan…” Matthew breathed.
Jan captured Matthew’s lips in a gentle kiss. Matthew nearly jumped at the softness, not expecting it in the heat of the moment.
“How about this?” Jan asked, hands resting on Matthew’s hips, “We cook together?”
Matthew usually preferred to cook alone. He followed the ‘too many cooks in the kitchen’ motto. But Jan was an exception.
“Fine…But do exactly as I say.”
Jan chuckled, nuzzling his nose against Matthew’s neck, taking in the woodsy, rainy scent that was now stronger due to preheat. “You’re bossy before your heat.”
“And you’re overbearing,” Matthew shot back, smirking.
Jan just sighed, finally relenting.
“I’m feeling something sweet,” Matthew thought aloud. “How about some breakfast for dinner?”
“You’re just craving pancakes again, aren’t you?”
“Maybe…”
Jan shook his head, smiling softly. He kissed Matthew’s temple. “Fine.”
Matthew pecked him on the lips once more before pulling away and rummaging for the ingredients.
It was sweet to be pampered. But it was more sweet to do something he loved alongside Jan and share a meal they made together. Maybe later, he’d let Jan coddle him. Make them hot chocolate before settling down for a movie. Let Jan carry him to bed. For it was nice once in a while to be spoiled like that. But for now, they’d both get to work.
