ATTENTION YOUNG WRITERS

The time has come again for Alpha applications! If you don’t know, Alpha is an 11-day long writing workshop for young authors (14-19) of fantasy, horror, and scifi. This year, the work shop is run by Max Gladwell, Malinda Lo, Amal El-Mohtar, and as always, Tamora Pierce.

They only accept 20 people a year so get crackling! Get more info here!

Please apply and get accepted because I got wait listed the two times I applied and now I’m too old and I want to live vicariously through youuuuu!

Alpha Writing Workshop’s scholarship drive reached $3,500 and they revealed one of my illustrations from the alumni anthology!  This is for Laruel Estes’ story “Shift Change.”

There’s two more illustrations by me in the anthology!  You can get the whole thing by donating $10 the fundraiser before April 1st!

Today: cleaned my room (including my bathroom), worked on novel planning, did some Alpha fundraiser work, ventured out into the freezing rain and did not die, drank a lot of tea.

Update: Justine Larbalastier is a guest author for Alpha

For those of you who weren't paying attention, this means that the Alpha Workshop for Young Writers will be featuring guest authors Scott Westerfeld, Tamora Pierce, Theodora Goss, and Justine Larbalastier. If you are between the ages of 14 and 19 and have ANY interest in writing genre fiction, you need to get off tumblr and apply. Right now. Stop reading this post and apply.

Alpha Teen Writers Workshop: Applications Open + a Fundraiser!

The Alpha SF/F/H Workshop for Young Writers is a workshop for writers ages 14-19 who are passionate about writing science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Young writers from  all over have traveled to Greensburg, PA for ten days of intensive writing experience with guest authors such as Tamora Pierce, Ellen Kushner, and Holly Black. For the 2013 workshop  (July 10 – 19),  the author guests will be Tamora Pierce, Scott Westerfeld, and Theodora Goss.

Applications for this year's workshop are due by March 3, 2013.

We don’t want any young writer to miss out on something this amazing. So, we’re raising money to support Alpha’s scholarship fund. While the workshop keeps tuition costs as low as possible, some students still need financial aid in order to attend. To that end, fourteen alumni of the workshop have written and illustrated an anthology of flash fiction–our gift to you in return for a donation of any amount.
