A very little Chapter 6 excerpt: (in which things are heating up, and possibly spinning out)
He’ll never understand why Sokka wants him, but he knows he’s not entirely worthless.
Just mostly, maybe.
I was afraid of love, of being taken away
Currently Untitled Omegaverse Zukka fic idea; the one where Sokka is the Omega and Zuko is the Alpha, also they’re in an arranged marriage
I’m typically a creature of habit, call it being boring, blame my autism, whatever you think it may be, but I generally write Zuko as an Omega in my Omegaverse stories and that doesn’t change. Except for this one.
In which, the war ends earlier, but not early enough. It’s two years after Kya’s death when word that the Fire Nation’s declaration of war has been lifted by the new Fire Lord, the once-known General Iroh. Sokka, Katara and Hakoda are still heavy with grief, unable to reconcile the news with their hearts so throughly shattered. The South can’t exactly turn their nose up at gestures of peace, but years later, when a letter from the Fire Nation Crown arrives seeking an Omega bride for the Alpha Crown Prince, it’s with a hardened determination that Sokka accepts to ensure their still struggling community gains access to the resources it needs.
Warnings: past mentions of abuse of all kinds, Omega slutshaming and Alpha toxic masculinity, racism, and ptsd.

I'm not 100% sure where this came from in my brain but I'm happy with it, I hope y'all enjoy 😌
for the prompts ask. It's more of a question- in a zukki a/b/o verse, what do you think each of them would be?
Ooooooh!! I love me some A/B/O drama. And I know most of of zukka fics portray Zuko as the omega, but I have a thing for omega!Sokka that I just can’t explain.
Now hear me out. It really depends of the biology in the verse, because every fic makes up its own. But I read plenty in other fandoms where betas are “soothers”, so they are not only unaffected by pheromones but their presence dilutes them and anchors the alphas and omegas onto themselves. So.
___
Sokka as the omega that hates being an omega. (cliché, I know) but he honestly doesn’t feel comfortable with the traditional omega roles, the expectations, and how meek and submissive the hormonal haze or his heat makes him. He’s a protector, a strategist that works with his mind, a leader... he’s lowkey afraid of letting go and just being vulnerable.
Meanwhile Zuko is an alpha terrified of hurting someone he loves or of being too rough. His father was a prime example of a dominant alpha and Zuko would rather cut his dick off than become like him in public, much less in his personal life. So he does his best to avoid acting on his alpha instincts and impulses.
Like, they love and trust each other, but they don’t trust themselves. Needless to say, it’s not doing any favors to their relationship, both being too reluctant to take the next step despite the overwhelming sexual tension.
Cue in; Beta Suki getting fed up with their angst and taking matters into her own hands. She offers to be in the room, in the bed even, with them. So that they can both have a safety net and won’t be so affected by their primal instincts.
Zuko trusts her to keep him under check, Sokka figures that her hormones will be enough to prevent him from slipping in too deep.
Except that relying on her turns into clinging onto her, and because they are all horny she ends up fully involved in the sexy times, and it works better than expected. Everyone finally enjoys themselves and can relax.
Sexual dynamics turn into relationship dynamics. Sokka and Zuko learn to better manage themselves and to trust their instincts, sorta healing/sorta adapting their hangups. But neither of them want to give up Suki there because they love her now just as much as they love each other. And she is completely enamored with her dumb, cuddly bois.
Just came here to say
Hearts on the Mend's current chapter made my mouth OPEN. I was shocked. Flabbergasted, even. Zuzu Fucked up with a capital F.
(but I think his comment about the omega scent is like not about Sokka's scent but omega scents in general? He fucked up nevertheless tho)
!!! I’m glad to hear my story invoked such an intense response (even if maybe it wasn’t the most pleasant one lol)
Zuko did very much fuck up. That’s what he’s good at, in this AU and canonically. Sokka can’t catch a break but Zuko has also got his own shit he’s dealing with and it makes it hard for him to process things, but it definitely doesn’t help that he could smell Sokka so intensely.
That being said, there’s definitely more Reasons behind why Zuko acts and says the things he does. Don’t think he’s being mean and petty because that’s just who he is, because we all know Zuko is a kind, gentle soul with past traumas that rear up at the worst times. I would go into more details, but that leads to spoilery territory and I’ll only give them out if you or someone else requests them (and it will be under a cut).
WIP Wednesday, eh? Here's a bit from the beginning of the getting-wildly-ahead-of-myself chapter of the next ABOverse installment wherein Katara goes into heat for the first time shortly after the end of the war.
"Katara, stop worrying about the politics!" Zuko snaps. Words fall entirely out of her head. "That's not why I'm here and you know it." She does know.
"Unless… do you not want me here?" His voice is tender and dark at once. "Damn the politics, Katara. If there's someone else you want, I'll go." Even through gritted teeth the words are sincere, but his face does not look like that of someone ready to leave without a fight.
"Zuko. You know there isn't," she chides. "Don't even. I'm just trying to be responsible, since you seem to have forgotten about that, Fire Lord."
He growls again. Not the steady, comforting note Katara knows, a frustrated and feral sound. Wordlessly and with startling ease he scoops her, trembling, into his arms and moves —inexplicably— away from the bed, to the door, then out into the corridor.
"We are not talking about responsibility right now." His voice is tightly controlled and smells of cinders.
"Where are we going?" Katara asks, petulant to her own ears.
"The royal apartments"
"What was wrong with—"
"More secure. And do you really want to share a wall with your brother right now? Or the Avatar?" Zuko's voice snaps each word.
He looks like he wants to shake sense into her and smells fiercely self-satisfied. The combination is more appealing than she ever would have imagined: some instinct scores it a success even as she fails to understand why. The logic of an isolated room, however, does not escape her.
"Oh. That's a fair point. I hadn't really thought…" at all, truthfully. Her thoughts hadn't bent toward anything but the compelling urge to antagonize him.
"Oh. Of course. You're…" That resonant, comforting note blooms again in his voice. "Don't worry, Katara, you don't have to think right now. It's all going to be okay. I'll take care of everything, you don't have to worry."
He's slipping toward the singsong cadence that had so irritated her before. Now it soothes. She pushes her face toward it, twisting to nuzzle at his throat, half-wittedly marveling at the ease with which he carries her. Despite her squirming Zuko's strides are even, long and unbroken, propelling them through the halls with a determined rhythm that is leading her body's fevered imagination places her scattering discursive mind can scarcely chase with words.
