Ooooo it's childhood HMO sharing hour??? I never hear anybody talk about this series but when I was a kid I was obsesSED with a comic that ran in Disney Adventures magazine called Jet Pack Pets, and Chief Pringle and Captain Swerdlow were two characters in particular I Could Not get out of my head lol..... Looking at your different F/Os, I think you might like these silly guys too!

E: External Personality 

1. does the way they do things portray their internal personality?

id say yes, for the most part? violet is pretty emotionally detached and she tends to have a deadpan demeanor most of the time. being perceived as weak is her worst nightmare so she makes a lot of active attempts to seem cool and collected even when she isnt WHOOP

2. do they do things that conform to the norm?

her schedule and activities are definitely unconventional, lol. she spends a long time trying to fit into a “traditional” superhero mold before figuring out she’s better off doing things her way :’)

3. do they follow trends or do their own thing?

she doesn’t try to keep up with any trends, but if she happens to hear “mainstream” music and likes it, she won’t be mad about it either.

4. are they up-to-date on the internet fads?

thanks to drake, she ends up getting exposed to a lot of internet slang and avoids using it at all costs. if she had it her way, she’d never have to hear any of it, but unfortunately when your archenemy is a youtuber these things just happen :’)

5. do they portray their personality intentionally or let people figure it out on their own?

ideally she would like to not be perceived by anyone. attention is not something she wants, so she tries to keep a low profile. mostly she just tries to give off vibes of being Tough and Cool so that people don’t try to mess with her. if you get to know her well enough you’ll start to see more of her wit and playful teasing.

When writing a character who's supposed to represent "good", which do you think is a more effective method for making them less "perfect"? Giving them big flaws to stagger their good traits, or giving them unusual traits/quirks to make them less of a blank slate?

from pixar’s 22 rules of storytelling: “You admire a character for trying more than for their successes.” let your characters fail! let them make wrong choices, even if they THINK those choices are right in the moment. let them make all the right choices and STILL fail! the more roadblocks a character faces, the more we want to see them succeed– the more challenging the journey, the more satisfying and earned the victory will feel.

nobody is perfect, even “good” people, and i think it makes them all the more admirable when they strive to do the right thing in spite of their flaws. they may have to overcome some of their flaws that hinder them from doing the right thing, and that’s where we get things like character arcs and internal conflict 👏

when im developing characters, one of my favorite things to explore is how a positive trait can become a detriment. ive mentioned several examples before on my blog and in my marvel oc tips, such as confidence becoming arrogance, passion becoming obsession, etc. I also suggest examining your own favorite characters, try to identify their greatest strength and their biggest weakness. how do these qualities intersect?

violet, in all universes, is a strong believer in using logic and strategy to her advantage-- but xvi specifically is more likely to resort to force when she needs to!
