While students on SUNY Geneseo’s campus were reeling March 11 from the news that Governor Andrew Cuomo had cut their semester short as a means of containing the rapidly spreading coronavirus, sisters of the Alpha Kappa Phi sorority were focused on a more immediate problem, crouched 25 feet above their heads.
“I saw him Monday walking home from class,” said sorority member Katie Sheehan. “He was on the lower branch.” The “he” Sheehan was referring to was a fluffy, black and white cat perched among the branches of a tree at the corner of Main and University streets. By the time sorority sisters had gathered under the tree last Wednesday afternoon, the cat had been trapped in the tree for at least two days.
