Oh, Baby! Part: 2
Michael Olise x Reader
TW: angst
Summary: Michael regains his senses and works to regain Y/N's trust.
a/n: this part kicked my ass 😫
Oh, Baby! Part: 1 Oh, Baby! Part: 3
Michael poked at his pasta as he replayed his last interaction with Y/N in his mind. Jamal had been rambling on about sister's idiot boyfriend. Michael nodded and gave short reply’s, too distracted by his own problems to carry on a conversation.
He was snapped out of his daze when Alphonso finally joined them and dropped a bag on the table. “Where have you been?” Jamal asked curiously.
“I went to get a Bayern shirt for my nephew. He grew out of his old one,” Alphonso said, pulling the toddler sized jersey from a gift bag and holding it up with a smile.
“I got some stuff for my brother's new baby too.” He proudly showed off the Bayern Munich themed baby items that he had purchased for his new niece while Michael watched. Images of his own child flashed through his mind, he couldn’t close his eyes without seeing that face.
Every day was filled with recurring intrusive thoughts of a little boy wearing a jersey with Olise on the back. He imagined what it’d be like to take him onto the pitch after games, watching him kick a ball around with his teammates' children.
That’s why he was standing here now, knocking on Y/N’s door despite the key he had in his pocket. He squeezed the handle of the gift basket and knocked again.
“I’m coming, I'm coming!” The door opened revealing Y/N’s flushed face. Her smile faded and she pursed her lips when she realized that it was Michael who had been knocking on her door and not the pizza delivery guy.
“Hi,” he started off first. “Hey.” “Can I come in?” “The last time I let you in my apartment you accused me of cheating on you.” “I know, I’m sorry. I don’t want to argue with you anymore, I want to talk.”
Y/N considered it and after a moment she opened the door wider and let him in. Michael closed the door behind him and followed her to the livingroom.
“I brought you a gift,” Michael said and handed her the basket once she’d taken her seat on the couch. Her eyes lit up when she saw the bag of sour sweets inside the basket. “Ooh my favorite!”
She smiled at the Bayern onesie and other FC Bayern Munchen themed baby items inside. “This is really cute, thank you Michael.”
“You're welcome.” He swallowed and clasped his hands together before speaking again. “I’ve been thinking-” she looked up and then held up her finger.
“Hold that thought.” She set the basket aside and waddled to the bathroom as fast as she could, forcing Michael to sit awkwardly until she returned.
“Sorry, I had to pee. I have to pee about every 30 minutes now.” “Really?” “Yeah, the baby puts pressure on my bladder.” Michael nodded, “yeah that makes sense…”
“You were saying?” Y/N said, spurring him to continue as she opened a pack of sour candies to eat. “Em, about everything. Do you have everything? Like the pram and the crib and stuff?”
“I have his car seat, bassenet,” she looked up in thought then huffed when her mind drew a blank. “I can’t remember everything else, come here I’ll show you.”
Michael followed her down the hall to a bedroom that was previously used as a guest room. Now the bed was gone, replaced by various baby items.
“So, there’s his car seat, here’s the bassinet. I haven't put the bassinet together yet because I'm scared that if I sit on the floor I won’t be able to get back up.”
“I’ll do it,” Michael said without thinking. “I haven't done anything else.” “Well, at least you admit it.” “Can you get me a knife?” Michael asked as he rolled up his sleeves and sat on the floor. Y/N stepped out and Michael took a moment to look around the nursery.
He could tell she’d put a lot of effort into it, and she’d done it all alone. He should’ve been here to help her, to hold her hair back when she was sick in the mornings. He should’ve taken her to doctors' appointments and made late night grocery store runs whenever she was having cravings.
Instead, he’d left her to deal with it all on her own because he was too afraid of facing reality. Emotions rushed in as he imagined her trying to move furniture on her own or carrying heavy bags when she shouldn't have to lift a finger. How could he have been so selfish and irresponsible?
He thought sending her money every month would be enough but now he realized it wasn't enough for anyone. Not for her or the baby. Not even for himself. The baby wasn't even here yet and Michael felt like he’d already missed so much.
Y/N returned with a knife, “here you go.” Michael stood up and wordlessly took the knife. He set it on the changing table before hugging her, taking her by surprise.
“Michael?” “I’m sorry. I’m sorry I left you alone, I'm an idiot,” he apologized profusely. “I should've trusted you. I should've never accused you of cheating on me, you've been nothing but honest the entire time I've known you. It was wrong and irresponsible, and I don't even know why I did it I was just scared." Michael pulled away and cupped her cheek with tears in his eyes.
“When you showed me his face and I felt him kick for the first time everything changed. I don’t wanna just send you child support every month. I wanna be there when he’s born and feed him and change him. I wanna do it all, please forgive me,” he pleaded.
Y/N clenched her jaw, “you abandoned me at one of the scariest times of my life and now you want me to take you back because you finally decided to accept reality? How is that fair Michael?” She asked, trying to keep her composure.
“It’s not, you're right. I still care for you, but I don’t expect you to take me back. I just want to be a part of my son's life.”
Y/N was conflicted once again. Why did Michael have to make her so confused all the time?!
He wasn’t a bad man, what he’d done was wrong and irresponsible, and he admitted to that. She would never keep his son away from him unless he proved that he was an unfit parent. However, she wasn't sure what to do about their relationship.
She still cared for him too, though not as much as she had before. Sure, he'd abandoned her emotionally and physically, but he owned up to it.
He willingly took a paternity test and sent her more than enough money to pay for everything without Y/N having to contact her lawyer. She had no doubt that if she told him that she needed anything he would’ve made sure she had it. But was his apology enough for her to accept him back into her life?
“I forgive you but I still don't trust you. Words without actions are meaningless, Michael.”
“Tell me what to do and I’ll do it. I want to be a father.”
“Start with the crib.”
After that day, Michael dedicated himself to making the rest of her pregnancy as easy as possible.
He knew better than to shove his way back into her life so he started by checking on her, reminding her to take her vitamins, and trying his best to convince her to drink more water and less coffee.
He hired a driver to take her places after she told him that driving was uncomfortable with the way the seatbelt dug into her belly when she turned to look both ways.
He attended every doctor's appointment and took note of everything the doctor said. And when her belly got too big to fit her own shirts, Michael rifled through his dresser to find the stretchiest and softest shirts he owned.
Over the next few months they formed a new relationship. One that was based on their shared love for their unborn child. The tension had dissipated and was replaced with a warm tone. Discussions of baby names and birth plans took place of the arguments and accusations.
At first, Y/N resisted Michael’s attempts to make her life easier. She assured him that she was fine and she didn't need him to come over and help her with regular chores. But when her belly got in the way of shaving her legs, she caved.
Michael began stopping by once a week to shave her legs for her. Once a week became twice after the weight of her belly started putting too much pressure on her back and pelvis. Her doctor suggested that she use athletic tape to lift her belly and relieve the pressure, a task that Michael was more than willing to handle for her.
After that, Michael began visiting her apartment for seemingly no reason at all. He would drive straight there after training ended, any activity that Y/N was doing suddenly became a group project. Including her own self care.
“How bored do you have to be to come all this way just to rub my belly?” Y/N asked as Michael rubbed cocoa butter over her skin.
“I wasn’t bored, I wanted to see you.” “Mmhmm. You must be procrastinating.”
“I’m not procrastinating. I just thought I'd come by and see if you needed anything”
“Sure Michael,” she said, clearly unconvinced.
“Besides, why would I go home and do nothing when I can slather your belly with cocoa butter? This is way more fun.”
“Oh yeah, I bet” Y/N said sarcastically. “No, I’m serious. Feels like I’m lubing up a beach ball.” Y/N rolled her eyes and resisted a smile.
“That’s so childish, Michael.” “I know you're not talking about me, yesterday I came in and you were watching Sesame Street.”
“I was doing research,” she said defensively. “I’m sorting through children’s TV shows to see which ones will be the most beneficial for his cognitive and intellectual development.”
Michael stared at her for a moment before bursting into laughter making Y/N laugh too. “Shut up, Sesame Street is a good show.”
“Yeah but Barney is way better.” Y/N gasped and looked at him in horror.
“Barney? So that’s what’s wrong with you! Nobody that watched Barney as a kid turns out to be a normal adult.” Michael looked at her in offense then down at her belly. “Do you hear the way your mother talks to me?”
Michael felt a kick and perked up, “see? He agreed with me.” “His opinion doesn't count, he hasn't watched either of the shows yet.” “Fine. What am I doing next?” Michael asked, holding up his hands covered in excess cocoa butter.
Y/N lifted her leg and Michael began rubbing her thighs. They both felt a shift in the air as Michael’s hands spread the lotion over her skin. Michael had read that pregnant women could become aroused easily but didn't think something as simple as applying lotion to her legs would have such an effect.
Y/N lips parted as Michael’s hands neared the inside of her thigh. “This was a bad idea.”
Michael halted his movement and looked up, "d'you want me to stop?” “I don’t know.”
Michael removed his hands anyway and watched her face as she tried to figure out her own emotions. “Do you want me to leave?” “No.”
Y/N threw her head back and groaned, “stupid pregnancy hormones.”
They couldn't keep their hands off each other before she got pregnant, which was how they got into this mess in the first place. In addition to making her sick, sleepy, and tired constantly, the pregnancy hormones had also made her hornier than ever before.
Every time Michael came to her place, she wanted to jump his bones which was part of the reason why she tried to convince him that she could handle everything.
Now, with his hand on her thighs, Y/N was stuck between a rock and a hard place. She lifted her head and looked at Michael with a frustrated expression. “Why can’t you be ugly and have a small dick?” She whined.
Michael stifled a laugh, “now you're doing it on purpose!”
“I’m not doing anything!”
“Yes you are. You're smiling, you know what that does to me.” She huffed and looked away with a frown.
“I want something chocolate.” She said, trying to convince herself that she was hungry instead of aroused.
“I’m right here.”
She turned her head slowly to glare at him while Michael snickered. “Now you're just being mean,” she said accusingly.
She huffed as she sat up, “I have to pee.” Michael stood up and held his hands out to her, she took them and he helped her stand up. Her belly being the only thing separating them.
She glared up at Michael who was still holding onto her hands. “I’ll leave if you want me to. Or I can help you with your little problem,” he said quietly.
Y/N considered it for a moment but she knew it was a bad idea.
“We’re not there yet.” He nodded understandingly and watched her as she walked down the hall to the bathroom. It occurred to him that now with their lack of physical affection, he felt closer to her than he had when they were dating.
Those few months of separation had been miserable for Michael and now he felt drawn to her every day. He couldn't wait for training to be over so he could go see her.
Maybe absence really does make the heart grow fonder.
