If Bobby followed a laid path, John carved one out, and Rogue had laid before them both as unexplored territory.
It was all almost too easy, really. Her powers gave them plausible deniability. John and Rogue were close, yes, and he flirted with her but only to bait Bobby, obviously. What else could it be, really? Rogue couldn’t touch. Her boyfriend’s public frustrations were proof enough. The implications of that were like armor for them. If she couldn't touch, she couldn’t cheat. So she and John could only be close friends, and any unkind rumor closer to the truth of things would be considered not only overtly cruel, because who could bear not to pity her circumstances, but simply in bad taste.
Of course, no one had guessed at John’s creativity...
