Self portrait in sheet music
If only you knew how easy I can tangle and unknot in the same bar. I'm the symphony after a breath. A drop of jazz after a quarter rest. Slipping through the working week and craving sunday best. Tumbling to presto, then tumbling again.
If only you knew how hard I might bust a high note and dip. Off in smoke. A flash of cape and flick of wrist, yes I'm fickle in practice. In a spotlight you can still let me whip. When we quake Ima look down brass til we back in rhythm.
If only you knew how well I unwind. On the bright days. And the bad ones too. Baby I'm less than two steps off the stage my tie goes loose. And I don't love the applause but I'd love it from you. Might fade every night in black and white just take me to my room.
