Late Nights
She sighed heavily as she threw herself on the couch. People could be so cruel sometimes. It was like the whole day she couldn’t make a single person happy. Something or the other wasn’t just right for them and they would tear her head off. It wasn’t anything she was doing wrong, she knew that, she was only doing the best she could but it didn’t happen to be enough. So here she sat, in the biggest pair of sweatpants and hoodie she could find, curled up in her heated blanket watching the cooking channel. Since she didn’t have much food in the house, pretending to stuff her face was the next best thing. Also, since Altair was gone for the night she could sulk all she wanted. After an hour of torture of watching delicious food be made, she angrily switched off the television before rolling onto her back. She watched the ceiling fan for a while before falling asleep. She awoke in confusion a short time later when she found she was lying in her bed. Altair now lay beside her, lazily playing with her hair. “When did you get home?” She asked, sucking in a sleepy breath. “Not too long ago.” He replied simply, rolling closer to press a kiss to her forehead. She tipped her head back to see the clock which only read 10:30 p.m. “I thought you were staying out late with the boys.” He shrugged before wrapping his arms tighter around her. “How could I enjoy myself when you’re home, upset?” It was nice to know he was willing to sacrifice boy’s night for her. She smiled as she leaned up to kiss his cheek but before she could he turned his head and pressed his lips to hers. She chuckled as she pulled him back for more. He happily obliged and began to move his hand up her body, caressing each soft curve until it came to rest on her cheek. His thumb gingerly rubbing back and forth while he looked into her eyes. “I love you.” He whispered. A familiar heat swirled in her chest hearing those words causing a smile to spread across her lips, “I love you too.”
