I’m back from my second (and last) summer trip, which has been a blessing. I saw the most beautiful sunset, and I enjoyed the Perseids despite the almost full moon. But this also means that I’ll be back to work in less than two weeks, and I am completely shocked at how fast time goes by when you’re having fun. To make my heart lighter, and speaking of full moons, I am here to present you the Luna Botanica Altar Cards by Athene at The White Witch Oracle.

“As it journeys across the heavens, the moon passes through each of the 12 houses of the zodiac. Each sign of the zodiac is associated with certain key flowers”. Under this premise, these 12 beautiful cards showcase wreathed full moons to work with lunar energy. But! they are also intuitive oracle cards: at the base of each you can find one primary and three supporting qualities that act as keywords. I find them great as supporting cards for tarot readings, and I also love them as meditative tools for focus. I like combining them with crystals (which are mine and not included in the pack, just in case). The teal/turquoise backgrounds remind me of chrysocolla, so I tend to pick it plus any other crystal for the specific moon (for example, tiger’s eye for the Gemini moon).

The watercolour artwork is dreamy, playful and a bit mysterious. I like how the moons draw my eyes directly to them, so I can have a visual focus and an area where to put the crystals I’m working with (if any). Each wreath, with its different colours and shapes, is a vibrant and direct pathway to the meanings and energy of each particular moon. At the time of this post, the last full moon was in Aquarius, so its flower is the orchid. The main keyword is uniqueness, while the secondary ones are curiosity, invention and contradiction. Even if you don’t know much about moon rituals, energy or associations, the keywords are there to be a stepping stool and help you reach further.

These are bigger sized cards (like mini prints actually) and have a gorgeous silky matt cardstock. The packaging is excellent and it is intended to reduce plastic to the maximum: and the black organza bag is a great addition, though I have rehomed them to a softer bag to keep the square corners safer. They do not come with a booklet, but this isn’t a problem as the keywords (and a moon calendar) are more than enough!

The Luna Botanica altar cards are an excellent source of lunar inspiration and beautiful artwork. Their nature allows for different purposes, from meditation, to study, to decoration. I have learned a lot with them, and as the full moon in Pisces approaches, their soft and playful energy keeps shining on me.
