With all that had happened in her cycles of existence, it was surprising that Yori was not more bitter, more cynical about ... everything.
First, Tron had thrown himself completely into his work. Which she had understood, for a while, at least. But when he stopped even trying to make time for her, it had started to affect her work.
She and Zuse had been friends almost from the start, and during that time period, he had been practically the only one she went to.
Yori had felt herself growing closer to Zuse, but she knew that the could only ever be friends. She was still loyal to Tron, even if he was barely ever around.
But then, Tron had been derezzed. Tron had been derezzed and Yori had been devastated. They had been growing apart, but Tron had still been one of Yori's first friends, and he had been the first Program to really MEAN anything to her.
She didn't know how she would have gotten through if it hadn't been for Zuse.
He had been there when she needed him, all throughout ... practically everything, on the Grid. She'd known that she felt ... more for him, but she never would have acted on that, not while Tron was alive.
She had mourned for her friend and her first love, but eventually, she had moved on. Even if things had been perfect between the two of them when he'd been derezzed, she would have had to move on, to continue on with her life.
There was a little bit of guilt, yes, when she was so happy whenever she was with Zuse, despite everything that was happening on the Grid.
Still, they were doing everything they could to help the ISOs, to help any Program that fell afoul of Clu and his new regime.
Which was probably what got him noticed.
They hadn't had long, either together, or trying to help when Clu got wind of when Clu caught on to what they were doing.
Yori still didn't know why she'd been spared, but Zuse had been derezzed.
It was the second time she'd lost a Program that meant ... everything to her.
She almost crashed, then. But she knew she had to keep fighting, keep working against Clu, even if it was an underground sort of resistance. She would keep helping Programs disappear when they needed to, offering them disguises and new disks.
Yori didn't know how many cycles had passed since she'd resolved to keep fighting, but she was getting tired. Tired of fighting, tired of running, and tired of being alone.
The Program had had to move her workshop again, and it was while she'd been looking for a suitable replacement that she'd come across him.
Despite everything, she still knew what both Tron and Zuse looked like, and the Program, though slightly different.....almost had to be Zuse.
But....it couldn't be. He'd been derezzed. It was just, as the Users would say, wishful thinking.
Still, Yori couldn't shake the feeling that he was important, so she followed him, flitting from shadow to shadow, following the Program with the cane i the desperate hope that he would be able to tell her something, anything. Anything to renew her hope, renew her will to fight.
At last, he went into a sector of living quarters and slipped inside what appeared to be his own quarters.
Yori followed him, even now, even into his own space.
As she had watched him and followed him, she'd grown more and more convinced that it was Zuse.
She stepped forward, out of the shadows in his quarters, and without looking up to see who had come in, he said, "Yori. It's good to see you."
That was all the confirmation she needed. She probably should have been more cautious, should have interrogated him, but it had been so long, so long since she'd seen him, since she'd held him that she didn't care.
"It is you," she whispered, falling to her knees in front of him. She knew that he'd been injured, and she reached out to place a hand over the wounded leg.
"I thought I'd never see you again," Yori murmured, tears filling her eyes. Ignoring them, she leaned down to place a kiss approximately where she thought he'd been wounded.
"What happened to you?" she asked, raising her head once more, to look into his eyes, searching, always searching for answers.
