An alternative ending to the last chapter of Tea with Topsy (Stars) because I can resist everything except a very sweet and eager “But what if?” comment that catches by brain at just the right time.
This is completely non canon but may it tide you all over until the next chapter
Remo-shagwell this is all on you.
"When it comes to breaking into your house, I am at your disposal Miss Ritchi," Megamind reached down and pulled off the heel of his boot, revealing a sunburst of tiny tools set inside. He ushered her to one side and knelt by the door.
"I should get you to teach me how to do that," She mused, watching his fingers slide thin lockpicks into the keyhole.
"I doubt we need any more opportunities for you to be wandering around the Lair unsupervised...ha!" The lock clicked and he slid it open, "Your door, Miss Ritchi," he bowed.
She stepped past him and patted his head, "Thank you Jeeves, that will be all," she glided inside and stopped dead, "Shit when did it get to midnight?"
"Twelve thirteen" Megamind corrected, leaning on the external side doorframe, head buzzing from the feel of her fingers.
Roxanne cast him a grin over her shoulder, "Coffee?"
"Don't you have work in the morning?" No shut up do not turn down any extension of this evening absolutely not.
"We had hot chocolate earlier,” Her mouth curved into a smirk, “If anything I'm under-caffeinated,"
"Then yes I-" He hesitated then followed her inside, "Coffee would be- good, yes."
"Don't forget to roll up your magic carpet," Roxanne called as she pulled mugs down.
Megamind turned from dehydrating his hoverbike, tucking the cube into his beancoat peacoat pocket "My what?"
"You- okay have you never seen a Disney movie in your life?" She demanded, standing with a kettle full of water in one hand and a jar of coffee in the other.
"No?" Megamind guessed, "I don't really? No. Why would I?" He answered bewildered, "Prison, Miss Ritchi, not exactly ideal for movies in colours other than black and white."
Roxanne plonked the kettle back on its base and grabbed him by the wrist, "You, Mister Pree-zen-tashun himself! Have never seen a Disney villain musical number?"
Megamind blinked at her.
"Unacceptable!" She declared and started pulling him in the direction of her couch, "Sit there, we are fixing this immediately!"
"I wasn't aware that was something else that needed fixing?" Megamind called back.
Roxanne rolled her eyes and went hunting for a video playlist while she made their coffee.
"If I take my boots off am I going to get to leave with them this time?" His voice rang teasingly.
"I make no promises," Actually back under the cloud cover it was unreasonably muggy. Roxanne kicked off her own boots and with a quick glance to the livingroom, wriggled out of her jeans before hurrying back over with two mugs, "Okay, here we go," She cast the first video to her tv and the screen was filled with a dark haired cartoon lion. She sat down beside him, pushing his discarded coat off to one side and hit play.
Megamind was immediately enraptured.
---------------
By the time they'd watched through the top ten villain songs of all time and had moved onto hunting down more obscure titles on youtube Roxanne felt goosebumps prickle up her arms. She tucked her feet up beside her and pulled the afghan from the back of her couch, flinging it over both of them. Megamind looked at her in surprise then relaxed slightly as she curled into his side, tucking the blanket over her feet.
"I told you to dress warmly," He admonished.
"Shut up," Roxanne muttered, trying to flatten the throw behind her back.
Megamind raised his arm to tuck it around her and she leaned against his chest with a pleased sigh, folding under his arm, "Thank you," she murmured, rubbing her cheek on his fleecy sweater. Megamind froze, then with a minimum of awkward flailing let his arm rest gently around her shoulders. Roxanne made a happy noise and snuggled in further, wrapping her arm around his chest.
Megamind was never going to move again. He was going to live right here, with Roxanne falling asleep against him for the rest of his life. He looked down at the soft brown hair on his shoulder and wondered how in the world he ever got lucky enough to be sitting here with her like this. Roxanne let out a soft sigh and nuzzled into his shoulder, "Tonight was really fun," She mumbled sleepily.
"It was," He murmured, feeling almost daring enough to let his cheek rest on her hair, "Best night of my life,"
"Hm?" Roxanne lifted her head just as he was turning to glance at the rain starting to patter down outside. His lips brushed her cheek, hers catching at the corner of his mouth.
They both pulled back slightly.
"Sorry I-
"Oh I didn't mean-"
Roxanne licked her lips and looked around to see the droplets sliding down the glass, "I don't think you should be flying in that," She said softly, turning back to look at him.
"I can," Megamind demurred, his breath rushing gently over her cheek.
Roxanne's eyes dropped to his mouth, and when she willed them up again Megamind was staring at her lips.
"Still," Her arm was still curled over his chest, his was around her shoulders "Stay,"
His gaze lifted, then fell again helplessly, "Stay?"
Roxanne's fingertips traced the hollow shape of his cheek, her mouth a breath away from his, nothing else in the world except this tiny golden pool of light cast from her lamp amidst all the shadows, "Stay."
Megamind's hand reached up to ghost over her temple, tucking strands of hair behind her ear. He nodded once, very seriously, "I can stay." He could feel the warmth of her face on his skin from the few inches between them. His fingers traced the shell of her ear, the stubborn line of her jaw and slid up slowly through the hair at the back of her head.
"I want to kiss you," He apologized, meeting her eyes, "Oh so very badly,"
Roxanne shook her head, shifting the strands of hair between his fingers, "Don't apologize," She breathed, "Please,"
His head dipped and he hesitated, desire warring with self doubt. Roxanne reached up, tilting to meet him and his lips touched hers. Softly, once, then again, a brush, a shared breath, and then a third, open mouthed and gentle as the velvet night. Her mouth was soft and warm and seemed to spread a languid warmth through his limbs everywhere they touched. Megamind's hand cradled Roxanne's head, drawing her to him and curling around her like he was a ghost and she was life itself. Her arms curled around his waist as they fell back together, lips meeting and parting and meeting again. Kisses sweeter than rain and slower than time.
