Please welcome (from left to right) Zelda, Miranda, and Snowflake, our three new hen friends named by children while being used a classroom hatching project. These lovely ladies are some of the lucky few that found sanctuary for the rest of their lives. Please never support hatching projects in the classroom. Chicks hatch looking for their mothers whom they never get to meet, some hatch on weekends when there is no one to assist them if there’s a medical problem, and most (especially roosters) are dumped in parks or discarded after a month or two in a classroom. Most importantly, these projects teach children that animals are ours to use as we please, to handle and observe and then to dispose of when they’ve served some sort of purpose for us. This attitude can carry over to other non-human animals and even how we treat other people. If you’d like to teach your students about the lifecycle of animals watch a video, visit a sanctuary, or allow them to explore them in their natural habitats instead. #chickensofinstagram #henfriends #animalsarenotours #teachkindness #alternativelessons #animalrights #hatchingprojectsarecruel #teachrespect #animalslivesmatter #loveoneanother #blackberrycreek (at Blackberry Creek Farm Animal Sanctuary) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8-DCbuHgyY/?igshid=19hlcneqvyqev
