Omg omg omg I first read dead trees like lavender fields on Ao3 and fell in LOVE with your writing and your characters. I was already a fan of the old gods podcast and this was the crossover I never knew I needed!
Anyway for your event, I guess this falls under hainted headcanons? I wanna know everything about Sargent Barnes and his intentions with the reader ahhh... Like, what is he exactly? How does he plan on getting ahold of the reader for good? And what would he do with her if she became his?
Idk if my questions even make sense lol but anyway! No worries if you don't feel like answering, I still love you and your writing forever 💖
Friend, I am so so thrilled to see you here and on Ao3!! Thank you so much for reading and reaching out during this sleepover party!!! Old Gods of Appalachia is such a beautifully rich and haunting universe that I couldn't help myself — I just had to write a series inspired by such a Gothic, cosmically horrifying world.
Thank you so much for all your questions about brother Barnes, all coalfire an' darkness. I think I can give you some answers without giving too much away!
What is Sergeant Barnes, exactly?
Sergeant Barnes is a nightmare. He is cave-in and crushed bodies, coal-dust and collapsed lung. he is poisonous gas pocket and underground inferno and all the prayers, offerings, and rituals to prevent those selfsame calamities. He is not evil, not completely, perhaps not at all. He simply is, in the same way any predator is just a hunter of smaller creatures. The next level up on the food chain and — simultaneously, for this congregation and flock — one third of a God. Believe you me — there's worse than Foreman Barnes in the tunnels and tombs below.
What are Sergeant Barnes's intentions with Kitten?
Every God deserves a tribute. Why shouldn't he also have a bride? Contracts ought to be honored, don't you agree? AS for how he plans on gettin' hold of Kitten for good well... Ma Rogers may have t'knock some sense into him 'fore he's allowed to admit it, but it's already too late. Blood always flows home, after all, an' these are her kinfolk. As for what he'll do to her once she's his, well. Look to Ma and Pastor Rogers for an idea of his intentions. 😉
