So I've noticed that like after every key scene between Bellamy and Clarke, fans have gone from excitement over Clarke's look towards B/E to listening to people who are telling them they read her look wrong, and are now questioning themselves. To those people I would say that you'll never get everyone agreeing on everything, but just because those people say you're wrong, doesn't mean that they are right. Just add this scene to all the others in the text we've been given and let it play out.

People think random strangers on the internet have more understanding of the show, or the world, than they do. They don’t trust what they see. They don’t trust what they feel. They don’t trust what they understand. It’s a lack of self esteem or self worth, maybe. They feel if someone disagrees with them, they must be wrong… but this is the internet. You don’t KNOW who knows what they’re talking about and who doesn’t. And some people who ACT like they are authorities are REALLY REALLY not. 

So just because someone says something online that contrasts your own view doesn’t mean that they are right and you are wrong.

I’m trying to tell people that when you start feeling uncertain about your theory or interpretation of a story or situation, to go back to the text (or evidence) and compare the theory to the evidence. Does it work? Does it match? Is it debunked or confirmed? Check ALL the evidence. Don’t ignore the parts that dispute the theory in question. If it disputes it, it means the theory is wrong. It doesn’t work the other way, which is what I see in fandom– where if canon disputes a  theory, people think the THEORY is right and the canon is WRONG. That’s not how that works and it makes for BAD interpretation. Bad interpretation is simply something that is not supported by the text, not anything to do with opinion or being unpopular or preference. Nor is it a personal attack on the meta writer. UNSUPPORTED THEORY. That’s all. 

ANYONE can have a good theory if they can back it up with evidence. And ANYONE can have a bad theory if they make things up or ignore canon to make it work. 

So just because someone SAYS they think they know what’s happening, that doesn’t mean they DO. Double check their theories against what you know.

And also a hint…. a story actually consists of a STRING of details, not just one detail. So just as important as understanding what a particular scene means is understanding how that ONE scene fits into the longer journey of the story. Understanding how things fit together will give you a better understanding of the story and each individual scene. So it’s not JUST what happens with that B/E kiss, but the CONTEXT of what happens. What came before? What happens after. What was the story saying was important leading up to the moment. How does this moment throw the rest of the episode into contrast?
