I’ll Follow You by Death Cab because that song was on repeat for days, until I had to go and delete it. (That didn’t last long, I was too weak for it to last. I got the song back in like a few hours)
24: What was the best book you read?
One Day by David Nicholls (I didn’t really read much of anything in 2014 now that I look back on that horrifying reality, other than the Divergent Series, the Heroes of Olympus Series and the Maze Runner series) and the plot of One Day isn’t too great or anything. I mean it’s a love story and it is a love story that breaks your heart, however other than that, it’s how a love story usually goes but man those dialogues are the absolute best.
36: Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Oh boy, I apologize in advance because I am pretty sure I’ll end up quoting the cheesiest song lyrics on here and I am extremely sorry about that.
This is for the ones who stand; For the ones who try again.
-Comes and Goes by Greg Laswell
(I can’t explain in words to what extent this song is a literal representation of my year.)
Currently, none. Because college has taken over my life. But I have to read A Song of Ice and Fire and Eleanor and Park as soon as I can get my hands on them!
42. Who would you like to see right now?
My mom. No seriously. I miss my mom. A lot. Also my brothers. Both of them. And my besties, Yawar and Elizah. And my grandparents. Basically everyone whom I love and who are back home.
I just read your answer and it was amazing! I needed a good explanation about Jackson and Lydia and you gave me a perfect one. You really get Lydia's character and reasons of her actions which I loved it. You are right about Jackson I guess. I was always a bit harsh about him. I miss his sarcastic and cocky remarks sometimes. (I shouldnt find being arrogant attractive. Damn you James Potter!) Thank you so so much. You are amazing.
I am so glad you agreed with it! I just really love Lydia, man. I love her a lot! I never really liked Jackson if I am completely truthful. Even though I felt that sometimes I can make sense of what he does and why he does it, I always found Jackson extremely annoying and egoistical. Hated him to be honest.
But yes, let’s talk about James Potter because that boy has ruined my life. I swear. “You’re great but you’re not James Potter” has become my standard impression of men around me. He has raised the bar so high, I don’t think I’ll ever find a real life guy attractive and that is sad. I HATE YOU JAMES POTTER (No, I really really don’t.) See?
And thankyou for that! It’s really nice of you to call me amazing. Let’s cry over Jily and Stydia together someday!
Hi! I love your blog and we have so much have common about fandoms so I feel comfortable with you even we never actually talked before and I want to ask you something. It is about Jackson and his treatment to Lydia. There are scenes where he seems like he cares about her. There are many scenes where he treats her like shit. But many people see them as epic love due to last scene of second season. And so little people talked about his bad behaviour which bothers me. What do you think about them?
Hey hey hi! I love your blog too, I swear! This is the birth of a new friendship, I tell you!
About Jackson and Lydia, oh boy, this is going to be super long. No, I am serious. This is going to be a thesis. Prepare thyself.
Okay, firstly we need to understand that the characters on Teen Wolf have really grown from their first season. When we met Lydia for the first time, she came across as this stereotypical Queen-B Bitch character that we see on a lot of TV shows. It was during the season that we realized that she is not everything she makes herself come across. She is super smart, and as much as she talked about not dating a “loser” she still stuck with Jackson when his life started falling apart and even though she kissed Scott, she clearly felt extremely guilty and sorry about it. So after she kissed him, we get to understand that she didn’t kiss him because she was attracted to him, she kissed him because that is what she was sort of expected to do with the image she carries. And that is basically what Lydia was. She did things not because she wanted to do them, but because she was expected to.
So she dumbed herself down for Jackson, because that is how she thought he’d like to have her around. See, this is the first indication that you should step out of this “relationship”. If you have to make yourself look stupid for the other person to feel better, that is not healthy. That is wrong and you should not let it happen. But Lydia was sixteen and as much as she tried to deny it, she was emotionally attached to Jackson. So she acted stupid. She would make a molotov cocktail and use the excuse that she read about it somewhere. And anybody could have questioned as to how could she have remembered the chemical formula for an explosive if she just happened to “read” about it, but not Jackson. Because he never gave her the credit that she deserved. So she looked pretty, acted dumb and praised Jackson who (leaving aside his familial turmoil which every kid in this story has gone through) was too comfortable having the Queen-B on his arms, a hot best friend and the captaincy of the lacrosse team. Clearly, when their relationship was shown in the beginning Lydia was the one paying the costs for it.
But then we see that this McCall kid has risen to challenge Jackson’s position on the social ladder and Jackson is so sure that there is something mysterious about this kid so he goes investigating. He tries to get closer to Allison while she is dating Scott and then doubles his efforts when the two break up. And even though people can argue that Lydia did kiss Scott and that’s equally bad, it isn’t. Because a) Lydia wasn’t aware of Scott’s transformation and his lack of control over his emotions near the full moon, so as far as she could see Scott was a willing participant whereas Allison showed clear discomfort and b)Lydia was clearly sorry for it and Jackson wasn’t. So he makes moves on Allison while in a relationship with Lydia and then dumps Lydia in the hallways with no reason whatsoever. As if he doesn’t owe her an explanation for his behaviour. Lydia never takes beef with Allison about Jackson trying to get close to her or asking her out to prom or whatever because she just isn’t that sort of a person no matter what her reputation implies.
Remember that scene at prom when she tells Jackson he looks handsome and he says “Obviously, it’s Hugo Boss” and walks away. Remember how Lydia delved into that feminist lecture about how she doesn’t want compliments. She clearly understands this. She understands what society makes of girls, but at the same time she can’t stop herself from acting the way that the society wants her to act. And what is more, she still goes out looking for Jackson because she just can’t let him go. He has humiliated her. Publicly broken up with her without any explanations. Tried to get close to her best friend while they were dating as well as after. Made her feel less than what she was. Made her act dumb just so he would accept her. And it still wasn’t enough for him. But Lydia was sixteen and emotionally attached to this boy and she just can’t let him go. It was unhealthy, and problematic but it was there.
And then Jackson finally gets involved in the supernatural and somewhere, something goes wrong and Jackson can’t figure out what it is. He was supposed to be a werewolf and beat Scott at everything except he can’t figure out why he isn’t one. So he takes this out on Lydia. She just recovered from a bite from a werewolf. She got lost in the woods for two days with no clothes on. She wrote cryptic messages on the blackboard. Her social status at school has deteriorated. And during all of this she wasn’t completely aware about the supernatural so she has no idea what’s happening to her or if it has happened to anyone else. Jackson was aware of the supernatural world. And anybody who was even slightly aware of the supernatural could see that she was clearly going through something because of the bite with Peter and she was still seeking Jackson out. Except Jackson was too busy worried about his own lack of werewolitude to at least be nice to her. He emotionally and verbally abused her. She hid herself from the world and cried because of how he treated her when everything in her life was falling apart. Remember that scene in the hallway where Jackson says “You ruined everything!”, we see Lydia cringe away in fright because she is clearly afraid that he might hit her. And even after all of this, Lydia is glad to see him at her birthday.
It was unhealthy, it was problematic and it was something that Lydia should have stepped out of on the very first day. But Lydia was also the girl who didn’t receive attention from her parents and had no one to emotionally rely on. Lydia was also the girl who was just sixteen and dating the boy every girl wanted and every guy wanted to be. And Lydia was also the girl who never really had any real friends before Allison (who had her own demons to fight). Lydia understands that being with Jackson isn’t good for her, but Lydia also knows that the connection she has shared with Jackson, she hasn’t shared that with anybody else.
And as far as Jackson is concerned, he might be a grade A douchebag, but he also went through a lot of emotional turmoil. Whenever a writer writes an abusive character they tend to give him or her a tragic past just so they have a chance at redemption. And that’s what they did with Jackson’s adoption. The fact that Jackson was adopted always made him feel as an outsider looking in. And the only thing he had going on for him at that point is was his reputation at school. So when Scott challenges that and in spite of all that desperation, the bite doesn’t work for him, Jackson clearly gets frustrated. He takes it out on Lydia, which he had no right to. But he takes it out on her because he has no way else to take it out. I am not trying to defend what Jackson did, but there is a twisted reason as to why he did that. Jackson had two people in the world he thought he shared some sort of an emotional connection to. He didn’t feel that with his adopted parents because he always felt like he didn’t belong. And he didn’t feel it with people at school because he was too busy making sure that they know he was better than them. The only two people he showed something similar to emotion with were Lydia and Danny. And Danny wouldn’t drop everything to help Jackson the way Lydia would. He abused her, emotionally and mentally. He took her for granted. He didn’t help her out. And he made her feel inadequate. But even then he did feel something for her. However bad the connection between Lydia and Jackson was, it was there and it was what saved Jackson in the end.
It was abusive and problematic and unhealthy and something nobody should be a part of. But saying that Lydia and Jackson didn’t feel for each other wouldn’t be completely accurate. Lydia didn’t get what she wanted from her family. And Jackson didn’t want what his family wanted to offer him. Lydia became the resident Queen-B because that is what was expected from her. And Jackson became the jock at high school because that is where he got the sense of power and belonging. Lydia and Jackson eventually became so isolated that they only had each other. So yes, there was some sort of mutual dependency and liking for each other. I wouldn’t call it true love, because true love isn’t supposed to hurt the way it hurt them, specially Lydia. But there was some sort of sick twisted emotional attachment that helped Jackson in the end.
And well, that scene where Lydia saved Jackson actually helped Lydia as well. She finally gave up. She was finally able to step out. She realized that she doesn’t have to do what society wants her to do all the time. And when Jackson moved to London, Lydia was smart enough to break contact with him, even if it hurt her for a little while. Lydia got better friends, worked on her relationship with her mother, became more confident about her intelligence and became a better part of the pack. She made mistakes, learnt from it and got her closure. And this is evident in her dynamic with Aiden. Lydia and Jackson is not true love. It was an abusive relationship powered by an emotional attachment born out of isolation and social pressures. And nobody deserves that.
I am sorry this got THIS long, but I really really LOVE Lydia Martin. She is my baby and I don’t want her to hurt anymore.
