#HappyMemorialDay #MyTwoNations #USA + #Ghana. As I was reminded that today was #MemorialDay - the holiday set aside in America to honor and to remember the Soldiers/Armed Forces who have and still do lay their lives on the line to fight for the interests of their nation and freedoms of its citizens because freedom is never free... I passed by Burma Camp in #Accra and was reminded of the #BurmaBoys- 100,000 plus African soldiers ( mostly Ghanaians and Nigerians) who laid down their lives in WWII and are often forgotten by the world and their own nations when we speak of heroes from our globally fought wars. I have never known of a special holiday to honor our armed forces-past or present-in Ghana, so I honor them today along with my American side because without both nations I wouldn't know many of the freedoms I do today nor be made from such a richness of culture and history. These men also fought with valor and dignity although the British who pulled them into the fight tried in every way to strip them of said dignity before and after they laid down their lives for the freedom of others without themselves having realized what it is to be free and independent as a people! These men deserve not to be written out of the stories of history when the world honors the Heroes of our World Wars at home and abroad because till today soldiers from my two nations and others serve in the protection of freedoms beyond their boarders. #NeverForget #AlwaysInMemory #OurGlobalFusion (at Accra, Ghana)
