alwaysrises sent: “Are you happy?”
the question, mundane as it was, caused her stomach to turn uncomfortably. when, if ever, was the last time someone had asked her that? did she even have a genuine answer for it? she wasn’t sure. in theory yes, she was very happy. she had a family in the avengers, something she had always wanted. being a part of that team was nothing like the red room had been. even if she hadn’t seen it in the moment it had brought her nothing but pain.
“yeah,” she finally said after several moments of silence. a small part of her felt like she was lying, trying to force a happier life for herself into existence. it was something she had been working on with her therapist. sometimes she still believed she didn’t deserve happiness because of the things she had done in her past. she was trying to accept that she had grown tremendously as a person since then, and that maybe she did deserve to be happy.
she had spaced out, a little lost in thought. it was time to be present again. “sorry,” she mumbled, her gaze focusing in on carol as a small smile appeared on her lips. “got a little lost in my head there,” she admitted. “are you happy?” traipsing around the galaxy had to be exhausting. sometimes nat wondered if she’d prefer to be stationary for a little while.
