This time last Saturday I was getting ready to head to Columbia College’s afternoon graduation ceremony. Everyone else (my husband, my boys, my best friend) was more interested in going than I was. Instead, I was stressing about my final GPA. I was pretty sure I had a cumulative undergrad 4.0, but had just taken my last undergrad final less than 24 hours earlier. So wouldn’t stop stressing about it for a few days more. I almost didn’t go to graduation. Did it really matter if a 30 something, first time, nontraditional college student showed up to the graduation?

It would have mattered. If I hadn’t showed up there wouldn’t have been anyone to accept this award. Lesson learned, always show up to celebrate my own life. I wouldn’t skip a graduation or award ceremony for my husband or one of my boys. I shouldn’t skip it for myself, either.
