Alycidon (1945-1963)
Described as "one of the greatest stayers in history", Alycidon (Donatello (FR) II out of Aurora (GB)) won 11 of 17 starts. His wins included the Princess of Wales's Stakes (1948), Jockey Club Stakes (1948), King George VI Stakes, Ormonde Stakes (1949) Ascot Gold Cup (1949), Goodwood Cup (1949) and the Doncaster Cup (1949).
Alycidon suffered from fertility issues during his stud career but still proved to be a great sire. His best foals include:

He was retired from stud duties in 1963 after failing to get any mares in foal. Just two years later Alycidon was euthanized at age 20.
