Amabel Pryce is a 12 year old aspiring detective who runs into a mystery bigger then she ever could have imagined when she discovers an amnesic homeless man with literal stars in his eyes being held captive in the library basement.
As Amabel sets out to find the basement key and free her new friend, she finds herself embroiled in the machinations of the mysterious and unsettling head librarian Dr. Webster, which to involve shadows that appear even in the darkest of nights, and the onset of the coldest winter their tiny town has ever seen.
But nothing shakes her as much as the now nightly dreams of a Thin Dark Man on a Pale Horse, who seems to get nearer to the town each night, and Amabel's quite sure ahe doesn't want to find out what happens when he finally reaches them.
