A little project I did over Memorial Day weekend. These are all original characters I was obsessed with as a teenager, and I thought I could give them a makeover to update them for the current decade. I've updated these guys a couple of times, but never anything major. They're all a product of the times, each one having been created between 1999 and 2003. On the left are the updated versions, and on the right are their original incarnations from the early 2000s.
The character at the top is Jyo Kayano. Originally a blue space elf, I decided to make him more aquatic so that the blue color of his skin made a little more sense. It also helps to sell that he's an alien.
The character in the middle is Ten, Jyo's adopted son. Ten is an alien prince who's family was massacred by the guy on the bottom. Jyo rescued Ten as an infant and they both fled to Earth together.
The character on the bottom is Amanatari Sano, Jyo's former partner in crime before the massacre. A mercenary by trade, Sano will do anything for profit, and he's not above taking the lives of any who stand in his way. He's obviously the villain of this teenage story I was telling.
In my little brain, I figured I'm finally at a high enough of level of art experience that I could finally bring to life a little better these characters from my childhood. I don't know if my childhood self would have loved these updates or not, but I love all versions of my OCs. They were all made with love from my brain, and I adore them even if I don't think about them as much as I used to.
