Meet Amanda Ryans.
This girl tells an incredible story of passion, power and what it means to make a difference. A few years ago Amanda was just a young girl sitting at her school desk sketching picture of stunning dresses in her math book. Today, she is an international fashion designer... making a HUGE difference
For three years now Amanda Ryans has been working none stop developing, producing and marketing fair trade clothes made by the women of the Dhaka slums of Bangladesh. The dream was first initiated after Amanda had arrived home after spending 1 month in India voulenteering in orphanges and schools. She came to the conclusion that to much of the aid work happening in India was religious based and forced people to change their ways before they were given help. Amanda wanted to change this. She got in contact with a project in Bangladesh called Jaago. Jaago were a non religous project aiming to help men and women find decent, fair trade jobs that would keep them closer to home. Amanda fell in love. Through months of hard work and the passion to make a difference, the Jaago sewing centre was born. Amanda had finally merge her high school passion with her power to make a different.
This story inspired me beyond belief. It takes a true dreamer to be able to combine a great love, in this case it is fashion, with the desire to go above and beyond with it. Amanda instilled hope and faith in thousands of people who had otherwise given up on everything. And as a result, presents the world with her beautful designs that no woman would feel guilty about buying, and shall cherish forever.
