Meeting someone for coffee felt like a terrible cliche. But it was also one of the easiest routes to take. A meal was too formal. A bar was miserable if you weren’t there to drink. She felt a little too old for any other avenue. So here she was, sitting in a corner table of one of the better cafes she’d become accustomed to. Less clogged with tourists than some of the others - quaint and comfortable, and with a damn good eclair.
She’d taken the liberty of ordering already when she saw Amanda slip in the front door, waving almost bashfully. When was the last time she had done something this casual? The invitation had almost been impulsive, but really, she had no reason not to extend it. She’d worried it might come across as suspect, given how they had met, but she had no intentions of trying to make out the secrets of Oliver Zafar’s campaign team. Just coffee.
“Amanda - hi.” When Amanda approached, Gabrielle found herself with a genuine smile, motioning for her to sit. “It’s nice to see you again. And to actually get a chance to talk. I’m not keeping you from anything this afternoon, am I?”
