Exclusive: Interview with talented actress Amanda du-Pont

Firstly I would like to thank you for doing this interview with Stateofartistry101. For some of our readers who don’t know who you are; who are you? And when did you know acting was your true calling?

It's honestly my absolute pleasure! I'm a simple girl from a quiet town in Swaziland who has a passion for acting and entertaining.

I'm a mix of Chinese,Portuguese,french and Swazi. I love life and love to see people happy. Well I've always had a passion for theatre since I was young but I knew for sure in matric when my english teacher marked my final speech exam she left a comment on there. "Never give up on your acting!" Being an actress is getting to relate to different characters, how do you come out of your shell and immerse yourself into a certain role? Well in training you learn to let go of yourself and fully commit to the character given and there are many exercises that help this physical and emotional transition. You have a very impressive résumé, please tell us about some of the work you’ve done so far I've acted on Muvhango, Generations, A place called home, City Sesla, Life is wild and Intersexions Season 2. I've done a voice over for a cartoon for the SABC learning channel. I have guest presented for sabc sport. I have done a McDonalds commercial, ABSA Bank Commercial,JIK commercial and two 2010 FIFA World Cup Commercials. I've also acted in two music video's. Which was the most challenging project you worked on and which was the most fun?

The most challenging was the sports presenting, I was doing it for football and in truth I knew nothing about the sport or its legends. The most fun was Intersexions. I think with time one acquires more skills so it was fun to apply my latest techniques to my character that I played in the show. The cast and crew were such a pleasure! You are from a beautiful country in Southern Africa called Swaziland, do you ever think of going back and doing some acting that side and what would you like to tell your fellow people about following their dreams? Well in all honesty there are not many acting opportunities in Swaziland.But I would love to make global waves so people all across the world may learn about our small culture filled kingdom.

I'd like to tell them to never stop dreaming - dreams are there to be achieved and also that poverty is not an excuse to not acquire a better life. Most importantly thank them for their support thus far. The department of arts and culture awarded me with a life time achievement award for the work I've done that has in return made a name for Swaziland.

You recently moved to the United States of America and left everything behind, what brought about this transition and what are some of the challenges you face being that side? I wanted a challenge-to better myself and to compete against millions for the same dream! Life in the USA is not easy and not for the faint hearted, it's expensive and cut throat! The winters are horrid and freezing, and the country itself is weary to open up for foreign talent. Your career lifted off here in South Africa, is there any difference with the film industry here compared to overseas? Yes big difference; it's so much easier in South Africa maybe because there are less people with the same acting dream! There's an average of three million actors in New York alone ! How's that for competition! Do you ever watch yourself on television or is it too nerve wrecking for you? Well if I must and production has some notes for me or if I'm on a new project I do to check if my thoughts and actions translated the way I would've liked them to. The truth is it is nerve wrecking because I'm so critical so most times I prefer not too! Well, you're looking amazing - what's your secret? Thank you! Water, gym, healthy food (when I can) and learning to love myself and definitely new clothes, they always help!

Stateofartistry101 is all about fashion and so we would like to know from you who your fashion idols are and what looks are in this season My heritage and culture are an influence! The buzzing streets of new york with its diverse fashion as well. Denim is making a huge come back; jackets and vests.

Classic chic black pants and fitted leather jackets, maxi dresses with denim jackets, varsity jackets, all star Chuck Taylors and Jordans are great on a casual day. Splashes of luminous colour, bandage skirts! Body suits have also made their way back. I could really go on forever I love fashion! Oh and round shape glasses are the new aviators! How do you deal with critics and what keeps you strong in this sometimes harsh industry? I don't deal with them. I understand I chose to be in the public eye and it comes with criticism be it good or bad - that simple! Do you think women are generally treated fairly in the industry? Yes I do maybe more than men because we can bat our eyelids In a nutshell please tell us who Amanda is and what else you love doing apart from acting I'm crazy,funny, entertaining. An ex fatty so I'm an amazing cook! I love fashion my style is ever changing! I give all credit to God for what I've achieved. I'm not perfect but I love being me. I'm a jet setter always on the go-life in a suitcase! And I love to shop you can find me wandering the streets of SOHO alone for hours And finally where do you see yourself in ten years? Having enough financial power and time to help the unfortunate people in the world but first preference Africans !
