Hi, I'm Miss Amanda!
Tell us a little bit about yourself. This is my fourth year as a teaching artist in a cooperative school environment based on developing connections to nature, art, play and self-agency under the Reggio Emilia model. I believe in the power each child has to learn by asking questions, exploring their environments and navigating the curiosities of life through play. My ability to create a permanent space for art in my life cultivated itself in City College as I received my English Degree. I have been an artist, primarily acrylic painter, since high school. I was inspired by my students to travel to Reggio Emilia last summer. Each day they remind me to nurture my own curiosities and empower them to do the same.
What is your philosophy on and approach to behavioral management. I believe in creating a safe environment and giving the children the tools they need to cope with managing their own feelings.
Who was your favorite teacher and why? My initial response was my third grade teacher Miss Frey. She was a nurturing and gentle soul. Honestly, I would have to say she has been replaced by one of my current students. I have spent almost two years with this child who is constantly challenging me to be a better person and teacher for everyone around me.
