Final Layout!

I am happy with my final layout as I feel it communicates the characteristics of Jess’ work. The abstract ways the images have been cropped resemble the forms of her jewellery and the choice of typeface reflects the bold nature of her pieces. The placement of type and its offsets also demonstrates the quirkiness of her designs. Overall it is able to display the minimal approach Jess has taken towards her jewellery creation, through the use of 2 materials and pastel block colours.

Interview with Jessica Maree (Kitsu)

Here it is! I feel like it doesn't look like much relative to other peoples but I have been able to capture the essence of my creative. Jessica Maree’s work is abstract, minimal, bold and fun. I believe I have captured these qualities in my work through the form and graphic elements. I presented my final in a clear plastic sealed bag so that the shapes would be contained and the form of my interview could be showcased.

My DIY Screen print adventure! 

I have never screen printed before so this was a great opportunity to try something new! Screen printing onto the back of my shapes will add an extra element to me work that celebrates the free form approach Jess has to her jewellery along with its bold character. 

I ended up printing my shapes onto a textured off white card rather than the pearled papers I collected, as it didn't perform the best when printed on. I used  Black and Silver inks, using the black to print abstract squiggles and silver to print ‘Kitsu’ the name of Jess’ brand. Cutting out the stencils was the most challenging part for sure. Overall it was a fun experiment.

Developing Mock ups.

I have decided to present the abstract shapes loose in a clear plastic bag. I am starting to arrange the imagery and type using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. I have also been searching for interesting paper to print on and came across some pink pearled paper.

Jessica Maree is a Melbourne Jewellery Designer. Her brand Kitsu is sold across Australia and New Zealand and has become very popular.

Sketches for Interview presentation...

After deciding to present my zine in a more abstract way,  I started to think about the form of the shapes I would use. I chose to trace one of Jessica Maree’s jewellery pieces and use that form as my base shape. I altered the shape slightly and then started to experiment with the placement of type and imagery.
