‘Flashback’

It was a month since the fire - John was up late, pouring over the books of lore he’d been lent to learn more about what he’d been up against when the crying started. He was up in an instant, picking Sam up carefully, cooing at the infant softly. “Hey Sammy, no need to cry.” He heard Dean moving, padding over to them. “Dad’s here, kiddo. So’s your brother. We got you.”

John looked down at Dean for a moment. “Can you get your brother’s bottle? He didn’t eat much earlier, he’s probably hungry again.” He kept Sam against his chest as Dean went to do as he said, John reaching down to grab a cloth for his shoulder.

He accepted the bottle back, making sure the temperature was good before sitting and feeding Sam, the baby’s small fingers curling around the bottle as he drank.
