AMAROUN : TALK (FEAT. CHARLES WATSON)
Amaroun releases new single ‘Talk’
Amaroun has a reputation for creating strong melodies with simple beats accompanied by scrupulous lyrical honesty. As a self-‐proclaimed emo kid of the noughties and a lover of many genres from Gospel to Grime & Hip Hop to Reggae, Amaroun is not easily categorised.
With a driving hunger to release music, and prolific writing prowess, Amaroun (aka Jay Brown) is releasing music each month throughout 2020. January saw the self-‐produced and genre bending track ‘Perish’ with the honey-‐like ‘Rosey’ following four weeks later. Now, we see the release of 'Talk', Amaroun's third record this year and first full studio recording.
'Talk', co-‐written with Charles Watson (Slow Club) and produced by Charlie Andrew (Alt J/Matt Corby/Maricka Hackman) is a song about the moment communication breaks down between two people ––“Whenever I sing this song it takes me back to those moments and makes me realise how important talking is to keep your connection alive” she says. “I have no regrets, I learnt so much about what I wanted from these experiences and use them to inform my own self growth and how I approach the beautiful connections with people I have today”.

BOOM! : Amaroun 'Talk'
kaleidoscopic indie-pop where simple beats meet strong melodies and scrupulous lyrical honesty - Amaroun returned last week with new single 'Talk’, co-written and featuring Charles Watson (Slowclub) and produced by Charlie Andrew (Alt J/ Matt Corby/ Maricka Hackman). As a self-proclaimed emo kid of the noughties and a lover of many genres from Gospel to Grime & Hip Hop to Reggae, Amaroun is not easily categorised. We asked her to tackle the 'Boom! Track' questions - How did you first start making music? I’m a self proclaimed emo kid of the noughties. I got obsessed with guitar at 13 learning the chords for Sum 41 and haven’t looked back. What artists have influenced your sound? I love music so always finds it hard to pin point key influences but I love to bend and weave through genres, surprising the listener but with an overarching strong melody. I must have listened the Frank Oceans entire catalogue at least 100 times so his work is definitely a strong influence. What was the inspiration behind your new single? That moment during a break up when you just can’t get through to each other any more, communication breaks down and just talking feels like an endless spiral but you can’t help but want to keep trying. What are your plans and hopes for the rest of the year? To make isolation work for me and my music. I had so many plans but plans change and life gets in the way. Go with the flow. What have been your favourite records of 2020 so far? The Queen and Slim soundtrack is epic. My favourite song on there is 'Collide'. It’s been on loop since I saw the film. If you could give one tip to any aspiring bands what would it be? Just do you. seriously. If you feel it go with it and trust yourself and the sounds you love. Read the full article
