So I use Scrivener. And honestly, getting this program was probably the best decision I’ve ever made as a writer. It’s amazing for writers of any kind (on the study, professional, or just fun level). You do have to pay for it but it’s only once and then it’s yours forever. I was also lucky enough to do NaNoWriMo last year and nabbed it for 50% off as a winner. That being said, I would have happily paid the full price for it because it’s worth it. 

It lets you keep everything nice and neat and organised:

Lets you set goals, track them, split/move scenes/chapters/acts around easily, add research/notes (has a function for tracking repeating words, name generators etc), create character bios with photos/metadata. You can do screenwriting, you can write novels (there are a bunch of templates for everything), you can colour coordinate everything, do redrafts etc etc etc. It also lets you compile everything in without you having to worry about formatting, and you can have your ebook ready to publish with a snap of your fingers. It’s a lifesaver!!
