since amazon confirmed that helluva boss and hazbin hotel are going to be able to complete their 4 season long stories, i wonder if the way viv has and will spend money for these shows will effect her chances of getting any future spinoffs with the side characters?
becaus god, she really does just hire whoever she wants for her OCs first, and then makes it a problem for future her later. (and the rest of her employees..) because like you said, mastermind is probably the most expensive episode of helluva boss so far, and viv described it as self indulgent. not even mentioning she can't afford kesha anymore after she only showed up in 2 episodes, or how she ran out of budget after 8 episode for hazbin hotel and had to get spindlehorse to finish the finale when the 2 companies she outsourced too weren't enough. imagine if that happens again when she inevitably wants lady gaga to voice lilith, let alone have her sing..
if her vanity projects cant be enough incentive for people to buy amazon prime subscriptions anymore, especially after that hype of a 5 year long hiatus for hh has now died down, and after an objectively disappointing s2 for hb, then i don't see any reason for them to keep fueling her shows. which i'd honestly be happy with - no more having to see her fandomize her own characters within the story, no more of her fucking up the lore of hell, no more shitty humor you can't take seriously but emotional moments you MUST take seriously, and no more risk of having a spinoff with a goofy rapist who abuses a main character in one of her most popular shows.
i feel kinda cruel and petty for saying all of this, but with the immature and passive aggressive way she's been acting when not one, but TWO of her shows are funded by a streaming service owned by one of the richest men on the planet, i don't even care anymore. she has any artists wish of being able to tell her stories however the fuck she wants with a huge corporation backing her up and allowing her enough wealth to be able to make her broadway kid dreams a reality, but still can't be happy as long as people don't like her or her shows. calling her mammon almost feels like an insult to how much i liked mammon's goofy ass - what people should really call her is what she really is: a limousine liberal.
Seeing as Amazon likes to think of itself as an Indie-haven where they write fat checks to "creatives" and have a generally hands off approach and ambivalence to actual critical feedback, I don't see this getting cut anytime soon. Amazon is a multifaceted company in ways that literally no other studio is.
It is an online retailer who makes more money holding the stock rather than selling it.
It is a book club subscription that doubled as a publisher without paying to publish anything because the original books on their site are all digital and have no overhead costs aside from using the cloud storage systems Amazon is already paying for.
It is a delivery service that doesn't even have its own drivers.
Amazon isn't anything like A24 or NEON or Netflix or even Disney and Warner Bros. These companies only exist in entertainment. Amazon is a fungus that burrows into ever facet of industry imaginable, including Housing and space aviation. That's how obscene a company Amazon is.
Amazon will write any check if they think they can grow/build off of the reputation that project can get them. And Medrano's mischaracterization of her show still being Indie definitely plays a part in that.
