Our first day we just had some hiking around the area to get oriented and learn a bit about the rainforest in the area. We saw fire ants, which apparently some people with numbness will allow to bite them to get feeling back. Seems extreme, but I don’t know what I’m talking about so whatever.

The guide also cut into a tree for sap to but on our bug bites, because there were a stupid amount of mosquitoes everywhere trying to eat me alive. I thought the most interesting/concerning at the time thing was when the guide gave us a little piece of twig and told us to bite into it. My mouth immediately went completely numb, and I briefly considered whether it would be good business to poison travelers, but I calmed down...

Turns out, it was a Novocaine plant - amazing! Tons of stuff for pharmacies apparently comes from the jungle. I guess I knew that but still. Moral of the story: your guide probably isn’t trying to poison you. 

Dinner that night was much more than we could have expected. We had a few choices from a set menu, Kris had filet mignon, Roger and I had a traditional rice and chicken dish. I also had a quinoa chowder that was creamy and epic. For dessert - mango tart. It’s like they know me.
